that would be dopearss
I had a dream of a of race track last night. I talked to a couple of people over the summer (tobi, alex, and a couple others) about making a track everybody would like. Then I talked after convincing my boss to hear me out, he said he might be able to help fund it if it would return some income and I was just thinking what everybody else thought. I guess it might be possible who know's anythings possible!

theres always the old stapleton airport runway alot of open space with very little noise ordinance, the runway paving wont be so costly!

Seattle Circuit
19 turns, 2.37 miles
Two big problems here. 1) Turn 5 (CW) is tricky because going full speed up the hill will put you in the air when you should be braking, so slow down a bit before the top. 2) The last turn before going into the pits to the right, will jump out & bite you. You can hit it at high speed, it just takes practice. Also, if you have a lowered car, watch the railroad tracks, they can bounce you a bit before your turn.

The track isn't the expensive part. nor are the employees, services etc. Insurance is the killer. 500 thousand in asphalt and 500 in concrete is nothing, its the 100-500 thousand a year that insurance will cost you.

well insurance cost would not be my main concern just the turnout of events, and open track, I'm going to lunch with my boss and when you have a $100million company backing you up anything is possible, so wish me luck!

Retractable dome? :D

RT 66 in Il is the best dragstrip I've had the pleasure of racing on. Nice facility.

A track with everything available, drag racing, an auto cross area, blah blah blah, just a place where you can do all your racing. Like a little mini town for cars :D shops and the whole nine yards!

see Bandimere was supposed to do something like that years ago but never got it approved in Douglas County, I'm going to try my hardest to get something off the ground.

Exactly... I remeber seeing layouts for that. It would be cool to have a place like that...

It will never happen bro. Unless your boss has some VERY high up political friends and can whack all of the people involved with PPIR. It won't happen in this lifetime. There is more to it than just throwing money at a piece of land and building a race track. It doesn't matter if he's worth 200 Million. This was already attempted and failed, with people who are probably a lot more savvy when it comes to these kinds of things. You might be able to swing a go-cart track but nothing more.

If your boss is a good business man, he will have his operatives view what happened with the "aurora" track and run.

one of those hot wheels track where you have to jump a large bridge with other cars jumping through the same gap in the opposite direction.

Some clubs do have autocrosses at Bandimere from time to time. I think the SCCA used to have some there too, but I know they don't now. But obviously there's no way to setup a road course there.

As for the ideal track... Second Creek wouldn't be bad if it were a little wider, looked nice, and was kept up. There are two turns that I don't like, but what's the point if there's no challenge. PPIR is a bit too NASCAR for me, even when they route the cars through the middle. I've been wanting to check out PMI, but Pueblo is a little far to drive the car you're racing to (could be a very expensive tow home). There's also CDR in Mead that I've been wanting to check out...

tsitim
10-08-2003, 04:03 PM
CDR in Mead we should go for a drive!

speaking of second creek! thought they were in financial trouble?

Weston-work
10-08-2003, 04:26 PM
I don't know about financial trouble, but the place is fairly run-down if that's any indication. But I wouldn't expect them to put much money into it, as their lease is expiring next year. I heard something about them building new track to replace it, but I don't have any details.

The lease is up at the end of the 04 season. They are trying to get zoning ect done to do a new track but right now it is all up in the air. This is all per my MRA racer class.
It is gonna really suck in the 05 season though, the only other tracks that are road race worthy are La Junta and Pueblo.

Cool racetrack would be a dome in the air or soemthing underwater.

I think that an indoor track would just be badass. This would be cool too:

having like the auto cross track going around the drag strip, and the autox has a flat bridge (so the heigh doesn't increase) where the drag cars go under the bridge to race on the strip. :)

Can you say PIPE DREAM?

Tim, I have to tell you that you are wasting your time. If a new track could be built Dustin would have already done it. He has all the money in the world, (Hell, if I had his money I'd burn mine) and he can't get one built.

Can you give us some more information about his attempts to get another track going? I'm just curious how serious he was and what information he got. And where he gets all this $$:)
Granted I'm sure it's the truth and that not just any Joe Schmo with a small finanacial backer can build a racetrack.

It was a project involving a know nothing racer named Penske.
It may still fly, but not soon.

Haha, I wasn't involved in anyway. Mudd was kidding. Besides Penske, Speedway Corp. and Bruton Smith who built many other tracks were involved with John Bandimere and some other financial backers, and sanctioning bodies. An amendment was added to the ballot which would annex the land the speedway would be on for Aurora water, sewer, etc. The people who run Pikes Peak International Raceway funded opposition to the amendment. they want to have the only promenent oval in the state, and possibly a future nascar race. So with the negative advertising by PPIR the amendment was not passed. on a side note, Nascar doesn't want PPIR because it is not a good location.
