View Full Version : Wastegate boost line getting too hot

So the rubber boost line going to my wastegate broke and fell off tonight. I cut the damaged portion off and reinstalled it, but then I touched it about a minute later and it broke off again!
I'm just using the rubber line that came with my boost controller, it's meant for the turbo -> wastegate connection, but the heat is obviously too much for it.
What's the solution to this?
I've always used vacuum line and never had any problems..
Where do you have it running to? In other words, which side is falling off?

Just from the turbo to the bottom port of the wastegate. The top port is open (haven't connected the boost controller yet)
So you have it hooked up directly to the compressor then? Which side is falling off?

Is it leaning against anything

It's breaking off right at where it connects to the wastegate. It's not rubbing. The only weird thing is that I used some pipe fittings from Home Depot, so I'm thinking that *maybe* it's too big and is causing extra stress on the line.

try a smaller/thinner hose.

Try a silicone hose of the correct size, instead of an oversized rubber hose.
Do you have a boost guage Weston? Because if you are having your wastegate run right off of the compressor housing, it makes sense to me that with the pressure drop you will get across your intercooler, that your intake manifold (thus your motor) will see less boost than whatever your wastegate is set at?
If you do have a boost guage, if it's hooked up to your intake manifold, is your boost guage reading slightly lower than what ever wastegate spring you have?
I've heard that the shorter a vacuum line is, the better whatever you are running off of it will work. So I'm wondering, would it be better for him to run his wastegate right off the turbo for quicker and stronger wastegate response, or to run it off the IM for more accurate boost readings?
And Weston, I'd fix that line asap, because if there is anything that absolutely NEEDS to work for you to not blow your motor, it's the wastegate. :)

Yeah, my boost gauge would say 6 psi when I had what I think is the 7 psi spring in. However, when I put in the 5 psi spring, it reads 5 psi.
But I'm just going to get the wastegate as low as possible and use my electronic boost controller to turn it up when I want.
That's what I plan to do.

Boost response will suffer with a low wastegate setting. Air pressure singals are not instantaneous.

I can take a gander at it next time I'm over their finishing up your piping. We just have to run the vacuum line away from all hot parts ie. the manifold, block etc. I actually am using some real thick solid fuel line from the wastegate to the turbo.
