from what i understand...you don't have to have a compression tool to install new springs. Is this right? Are there any disadvantages to not using one.
who has installed their own lowering springs? how did u do it?

it depends on the car. some cars don't, while other need them. go to the local auto parts store and rent one.

I've done it to several cars. My old 3G accord, my 3G teggy, my 5G Civic, a previous generation G20, a cavalier. Safest way is to use a spring compressor. Installing the lowering spring usually doesnt require a compressor. It sometimes requires lots of body weight to push the top hat down and put the nut in place. Sounds perverted, right? Heehee.

while installing lowering springs doesn't always need a compressor, taking of the hat of the old ones will. And, unless you want a flying spring to your gut, I'd recommend renting one. Just my .03.
