Ok, I am wiring up a magnetic reed / push button switch for my fuel cut off... I just don't understand how it's gonna work though - I guess if a magnet is swept by the reed, it will open just long enough to keep the circuit open, and pushing the button kills it again.

So, is this correct information? I am trying to understand how this works before I install it. :o

thats damn near the worst electrical diagram I have ever seen. Why dont you just use the circuit I posted? Its a lot easier to understand..and its a clamping type circuit..so its one hell of a lot more user friendly.

Just my $.02 tho..I cant make heads or tails of that fucking diagram :p

Gotta link for that by any chance? :D I'd really like to use the magnetic reed too instead of just a push button you know...? Or I could you JUST the magnetic reed if that'd work.

it was posted in this forum a few months ago, I don't think there are too many posts in here either

Ok, I see, thanks for the links forum. :)

Bedlam, would you happen to have a little diagram I could go off? I have this magnetic reed switch from Radioshack - it's just like two white cylinders about the size of a filter on a cigarette - would that work for the job?

umm that switch works really well actually

in that thread, this link http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp
under passive starter kill the first diagram, you could use that circuit for a fuel cut switch as well

Ok, so I could use this:

And I wanna hook it up to the fuel pump, so instead of doing motor/key starter I'd just do a loop with the fuel pump wire right?

Thanks for the help guys... hopefully gonna install this tomorrow or Saturday. :)

yup, thats pretty much it, good luck on the relays, best price I found locally was at napa for about $11 a piece

Yea, I already have all the parts bought - the DPDT relay was $9, and the 30amp auto relay was $6. Friend paid for it though... he was gonna try it, but backed out, so I said 'well, drop the stuff over here'. :) Got it from the shack.

I also would like to throw in a LED there... so I know when it is activated or not. Where in the line would I put this so it is on when the car is disabled, and off when I drive. I hope that won't eat into my battery. :D
