View Full Version : Thinking about an h22a

So yea, PRI makes motor mounts for the h22a in 88-91 Preludes... which I think would make an awesome sleeper, a quick daily driver (which is what I need), and reliable above all others. The motor is around $2,000, mounts are $500, custom wiring harness and OBD-0 to OBD-1 is $1,000, finally axles and money for other misc: $1000. Apparently the mounts are abit off, and some custom fabrication would need to be done... however I am gonna see if PRI can fix that. But how long would this swap take to do just as a ball park average, and wanted to see what some people thought. :)

Depends on what you end goal is. If you're going for a sleeper, then that's definitely a good candidate. Old school Preludes got the sporty look in them. If you're going for speed/handling, I'd get a different car since the selection of suspension and other performance parts isnt as wide as for other generations.

I got a H22 that I'll be selling here shortly.

B18CBungy - well, end goal is to have a quick daily driver car that is reliable. I understand that I can only pick two of these: cost, reliability, and speed. Well, I pick cost and reliability. :D Speed is nice, and these swaps run very high 14's/flat 15's at sea level... I am gonna stay N/A, prolly do simple I/H/E, cam gears, maybe some fuel stuff, but that's as far as I am gonna go. :) Handling is nice, but not a must... I am gonna be going with Skunk2 Coilovers and Tokico Blues shortly, which I hear is a good combo and they are made for the old skool ludes too. :D Gonna do strut bars and sway bars as well.
Slava - how many miles, condition, and how much? Reality is, I still have to pay mom and insurance, so I'll be looking in a few months... hopefully I can do the swap X-Mas break... that would be ideal timing. :)

Its my stock H22 of a 99 lude. It has 38K on it. I have everything but no axles. The price is 1900. But I'm not selling it yet. I'm still trying to fix my lude so I might have to use some parts but I'll let you know.

$1900? Ok... I'll have to think about it cuz I can get one from hmotors plus like $200 shipping and have everything from the block, ECU, tranny, etc.

i got a 98 h22 in my 97 civic. when they went to use the ecu they ran into problems bypassing the imbolizier that came on 97-newer h22 ecu's. just something to think about. flashoptions.com also sells whole front clips for some preludes, but hmotors is proably still your best bet.

Mario, if you don't want a wiring nightmare, you need a 92-96 H22A, those are the OBD-I motors. The newer ones would be a wiring nightmare in your car.
I've never heard of a OG Prelude with the swap. Is your shifter linkage style or cable?

I heard the same thing that all of the obd2 are wiring nightmares. I don't understand why there are about 8 more sensors I think on obd2 then there is on obd1.

Yea, I would get an OBD-1... in fact, PRI will do a conversion harness and adapter for $600.
Yea, there is one guy who is running turbo... 600hp, 430whp. Shifter is cable as far as I know.

it would actual/ly have to be 93-95 96 is obd2 and they didn't make it in 92 narrows the selection down even more

OK, awesome - so you'll be the man to do the wiring. Good deal, this swap won't be for a couple of months... in fact, around Xmas - but I'd rather pay a fellow HAI-er than some company who doesn't make the mounts correct anyways. :)
