Ok, now there really isnt a company out there that makes roll cages for my car, so id have to have one custom built or build one myself, and I would rather build it myself to learn and shit. So anyone have any info or tips on building one, such as: type of metal to use, thickness, where to mount, where to get the piping, do I have to weld it in place, or can I bolt it up somehow, etc. Thanks a bunch !!!

if you're planning on 1/4 mile racing it and plan on going fast enough so that a roll cage/bar is required then i would pick up an NHRA rule book. that will tell you a lot of the sqecs you need to go by. it probably wouldn't be the smartest thing to weld a cage that could potentially be a life saver if you don't know WTF you're doing. hopefully you know how to weld and this isn't a learning experience.

if you're just going for looks then disregard that last paragraph, pick up some supplies from home depot, and go to town.

Agreed. I'll leave my rollcage up to a profesional. Your life is on the line, so doing one on your own may not be the best move.

If you just want a cage for autox or whatnot, look for autopower and kirk racing cages.

For a drag car?

Competition Engineering, S&W, and Jegs all make rollcages to fit almost every compact car out there.

I have a hard time believing there isn't one to fit your application; what do you drive?

I found a company that makes roll bars and cages for my car (91 mazda protege LX) its not gonna be for drag racing tho, for SCCA competitions and when I go canyon carving. Thanks

Autopower makes bolt in rollbars and cages for your car.

That's the link to the race rollbar for 90-98 Protege's. If you get an autopower bar or cage, I strongly suggest getting the optional harness crossbar if you plan to run a multipoint harness anytime in the future.

The bars are preassembled and only need to be bolted in. The cages consist of a prewelded bar, and you need to have the front hoops welded in place.

call me an idiot, but what is the difference between a roll bar and cage? Does the cage protect the entire car, and a bar just protect the rear?? Im not to sure on this. thanks

A cage is protection wrapped all the way around the driver and passenger seats. A roll bar is a single piece that is in the middle of the car and protects the roof from caving in on top of your head. The roll cage protects you from impacts from the side, roll-overs, front end collisions (depending on how far forward it goes), also protects the windshield A-pillar from smashing in. The roll bar doesn't protect the A-pillar, only the space right above your head.
