View Full Version : Ever heard of this?
I saw this on Honda-tech. It's off the Endn site. What do you think of it? I hear it's easy, but it looks like it's beyond my level. So how much do you think it would cost someone else couhgtobicough to do it?

Never heard of it, but if it works, I sure would like to know.

I wouldn't trust it at high RPM's.

I wouldn't trust anything that comes from Endyn. I don't know/remember the full story behind Endyn but there was a lot of lying and hype.
But I can't think of any theoretical reason why it wouldn't work.
FWIW, lots of engines have holes drilled and tapped in the block after casting so I wouldn't worry about ruining the intergrity of the block.

That's exactly what I was thinking, but just because a guy sucks dick at running a business, doesn't necessarily mean that doesn't know what he's talking about.

From what I remember the studs/bolts that are used to do this are made of the same type of metal as the block. This ensures that when the block gets to operating temperature the stud/bolts will expand at the same rate. $30 from endyn if you can still get them from him.
I was going to use pieces of cold rolled steel bar approximately 1/2" thick and drill vertically down into the water passages where the rods would give reinforcement. It would theoretically be a full length block guard that wouldn't compromise cooling issues like regular block guards do.

I wonder of you couldn't get the same or better effect by using threaded rods screwed part of the way down either side of each cylinder. Lock them in place at the top with some JB Weld or maybe even a small weld. Then you could put a section (or sections) in that didn't go all the way top to bottom and wouldn't signigicantly impede cooling flow.
94hatch-less, wouldn't you want to use the same material as the block for your rods? If not, why?

There is some more info on block posting in the 2-liter build up article.
As far as avoiding advice and products by Endyn, I suppose such is the way of the import scene. Anyone who knows what the fuck they are doing are automatically discredited because they've actually made a career of building racing components for 30 years rather than accumulating a post count on Honda-tech spewing unsubstantiated claims and regurgitating theory.

i seen this before...NASCAR was the first to develop this and it really works.... i seen a civic that had 350 hp with those on...it just the same thing as putting in a block gard....

Because it would be hard to track down rods that are made of the same material as honda blocks. The cold rolled steel expands less than other forms of steel. If I were using a 1/2" piece of steel I would use a 9/16" or 5/8" hole to put it into, that way the honda block still has room to expand.

Agreed, but without knowing exactly how much each part will expand wouldn't you run the risk of either not having enough support or having too much support, which could cause cylinder deformation?

I think people stopped trusting Endyn after the whole supercharger fiasco. But who cares right? Let people do whatever.

i dunno, looks pretty ghetto to me.... IMO sleeves are the most sure-fire reinforcement. Maybe I'd consider it after more people had tried it successfully.
