I have a Garett t3/t4 hybrid turbo with an internal wastegate. Currently, it uses a 3 bolt flange. It was brought to my attention that under the swingvalve cover, is the standard 5 bolt footprint. my question is, is there anybody who sells a 5 bolt flange that has a hole or something for the swingvalve? or will i have to custom it? additionally, will i loose significant power if i just run open wastegate?

You should at least have a dump tube so you don't destroy stuff in your engine bay, (like when Titus melted his radiator when he ran open wastegate) but from what I understand, actually having an independant exhaust for your wastegate (I guess that'd be the dumptube) will help make power. Not positve though.

burned a hole in his radiator?

Yep, I saw it. It wasn't quite all the way through cause he was still driving it, but it was pretty close.

not to mention it makes a neat black tint on everything around the opening if it's not directed somewhere.

You can buy a 5 bolt flange will a hole cut in it, and you can either run the internal setup, or lose it and get an external wastegate that mounts out of a tube coming out of that hole.

Open wastegate won't really affect power if your exhaust flows ok, but yeah, it is loud, it sounds like ass, and it melts shit.

The 3 bolt assembly that bolts to the 5 bolt turbo charger is the swingvalve assembly. If you take the the swing valve assembly off and use a "standard" five bolt flange you would have to use and external wastegate. They do make 5 bolt flanges wither with or without the "wastegate" hole.

If you are local (Colorado) talk to Jim at Turbo Engineering Corp (TEC) in Golden. He can and will do custom flanges/parts/etc for a pretty reasonable pricetag.

If anything, you'll gain a bit by running the open wastegate, depending on the entire setup. As a rule of thumb, less pressure in the exhaust plumbing == better flow. Not dumping the 'gate back into the exhaust stream == less pressure. It sounds awful, but like everything else with turbocharged motors, it's a tradeoff.
