Car Toys totaled a guy's ($70k) Mercedes by cutting a cross beam behind the dash to install a gps system. I guess that part can not be replaced so the car is now 'totaled'. Sucks for car toys... expensive mistake... sure as hell am not taking my ride there.

I've seen some of the people that CarToys hires. All I can say is that they might as well hire a team of Monkeys to install their products. Couldn't hurt them anymore than they are already hurting.

I'd be interested in exactly what was cut...I mean, if this thing that was cut had to do with the rigidity of the car or something it would have to be EXTREMELY hard to cut right?? It just isn;t making sense how something behind the dash would have anything to do with ruining a whole car. And I'm assuming it can be fixed/welded and be just as strong???

im sure it can be repaired. its not like the dealer can not order the needed parts.

I guess the reason it was a key part of the car was because it was a convertable... thus needed more support where they could fit it in I guess.

How is the owner an asshole? Cartoy's install workers are such idiots. My roomate took his Jetta in to have a cd reciever put in, they didn't follow directions and caused his battery to die sooner. Retards probably connected the power wire with a wrong wire causing the power to remain on. And Cartoy's basically told my friend tough luck. They said he shouldn't have left Cartoys without testing the stereo. How can anyone tell they did the install right without taking it out to check terminals.
BOYCOTT CARTOYS, they hire retarded monkeys for install techs.

If it was a convertible (SLK) Im guessing. There is a large piece of structural steel that makes up the windshield frame and dash support. The part in question (S2000s have them too) is hydro formed steel and is welded into the unibody before any other parts are attached to the car.
Thank you for that very scientific explanation of what is happening to this dudes car. Your expertise has always been appreciated by all of us Mr Ghandi.
Thank you very much

thanks mudd.
Ona side note, some stupid hack at cartoys probably couldnt think his way around the huge steel bar in the middle of the dash so he did the next best thing. Got his hatchet out and lumber jacked it so his precious 17 inch in dash tv screen would fit.
Again...........you are wowing us with your thorough knowledge of this very unfortunate idiotness of Car Toys.

Here is apic of the frame in the S.
Not shown in the pic is the 2 inch steel bar that ties the sides together and provides the main support for the dash and steering column. Unfortunatly MB has decided tomake that support a solid mount and is not replaceable.

cartoys keeps me in business. As well as Midas, Brakes Plus, Asylum Motorsports (used to not any more) Sears auto center, mieneke, Just brakes, Joe Blows car budget car repair, the corner gas station, and of course Mr. Mechanical engineer who thinks mechanics are all illiterate fucks so he tries to repair his own car and after three weeks of bleeding knuckles he bings it to me so I can charge him double to reapir his repair.

Its America and you can go anywhere you want. Im just saying if you cant do it yourself, find someone you can trust to do it for you. Business by refferal is the best method. If you are good enough for people to their friends about then you are doing something right.

All I have to say is after all the bullshit i've been through with dealers, and all the crap I hear about shop... if I need anything from a tuneup to a rebuilt motor I'd take it to tobi.
Even if he was more expensive than other places, knowing it's done right by someone who stand behind there work is enough of a reason for me to do it.
I was having a problem with my brakes a little while ago that he fixed easily. From what I understand it wasn't a major problem, but i'm sure brakes plus or wherever would of tried to charge me more for something else I didn't need.

Well..Tobi used to work for a big dealership...I took my car there to have him work on it when I needed something. That way, it was either him that was working on it, or someone that he trusted to do the work doing it. There are a lot of mechanics out there that could give a shit less about your problems and/or doing a good job. I've yet to meet anyone that knows as much about hondas..(and cars in general for that matter) as Tobi does..so if I can get my car to him, I try and have him do the work. Otherwise, I'd definately go with a referral..I've had some fucked up work done to my car by..Elway Honda, Terell-Doyle Honda (Cheyenne, WY), Wal-Mart. :(
Otherwise, when I was in montana, I'd go to mechanics that my dad recommended...when I am here, I try to deal with people that are recommended to me by friends. A good mechanic, salesman, store owner for that matter, lives or dies by referrals. At least thats my opinion on the matter.
