Thought I'd post a warning for ya'll. If anyone works/lives near the DTC (Park Meadows mall, surrounding offices East of I-25) There have been a ration of break-ins recently. My lady works across the street from Park Meadows. Several car stereos have been stolen during daylight hours. F'rs are forcing locks, ripping off dash panels, pulling out the stereos and cutting the wires. Total amateurs. The cops verified that yes, there have been a TON of reports recently.
Dude I work with drives a not fancy Jeep Cherokee that had a $150 deck. Bastards broke the lock on the passenger door, tore apart the dash, and ripped out the stereo. My integra was parked right next to it in the parking lot at my office!
I'm hoping I catch 'em in the act next time. :guns:

That's ok because the face plate is worth more than the unit. I bet in the right market I could get enough to cover my deductible.

Titus leaves his deck face on so when he steals it from himself he can get just that little bit of extra money. j/k
How much damage was done to the jeep? More than $150 I would imagine.

the average value of stolen stereo varies between $50- $100 like i said average.

I am curious - which is the more valuable part of the head unit? The face plate seems to be nothing but some buttons, the LCD, and the connector on the back... why more expensive than the actual thing itself?

what really pissed me off was when my prelude was broken into and they stole the faceplate, garage opener, and my new wool coat. What was the point of stealing the faceplate?
I did stay up almost all night with my 9MM and two fully loaded clips hoping those bastards would come back trying to open my garage. I changed the code immediately.

everythings legal as long as you don't get caught
And I think the faceplate is the most expensive but at the same time...it's useless without the backdeck.

In terms of actual parts cost, both the CD transport and the display LCD in the face are expensive. I would think the main chassis with the CD mech would be more costly, but the fact is that replacement faces are between $60-200, and a whole new player starts at about $120.
So you see the problem for someone who has a face stolen. But, on the other side of the coin, stealing a player without a face really isn't a good deal for the thief either, unless he's full time and hopes to find matching faces for units he'd stolen previously (they're not coded to each individual unit or anything). Or is selling faces on Ebay.
Speaking of which, I once sold a CD unit I'd had the face stolen off of on Ebay. I went to a car stereo store first and borrowed a face to confirm that it still worked 100% (and to eject my CD that was still in it) but a new face was like $100.
I got a couple nasty emails accusing me of selling a stolen unit from people on Ebay. If that isn't ironic I don't know what is.

On the news last night they said theives in that area target Older Jeep Cherokee's because the door locks are easy to bypass or something along those lines.
