I need a new motor. I have a limited budget (about $2000) and need to get an OB2 type motor for my 2000 civic. I have been debating what to get but I thought I might ask as to what you guys what you think I should do! :D

b16a seems like that'd be a good candidate.. I don't really know what other motor you'd want to drop... of course a b20 or b18c1 would be cool, but not sure how much work you want to put in it.

for your price....b18b would be good if you wanted to go turbo eventually. b16a would be good to....I don't know depends on what your future plans are. i can find b18 swaps for about 1500 engine tranny and ecu.

Damn, I just sold a 98 Civic EX motor cheap, would have been a cheap drop in replacement.
Otherwise, you might as well go B16A. Then throw an HKS manifold on there and run your Greddy kit on it:)

I have been shown the light...
Greddy Turbo = Mad suckage, with internal wastegate for mad suckage price.
MaxRev Turbo = Mad boostage, with external wastegate for mad tyte price.
in conclusion...stick to SOHC and boost that bitch.

You can get a H22 for 1900 the mounts will run you about 650 so for 2550 you will have a fast car. Go to www.flashoptions.com I got my H22 from them for my civic.

If she drops an H22 into her Civic she is going to need a suspension that can support it's wieght and that's going to cost her a few mor hundred for a basic setup so she'll be running around $3000 not to mention taxes, and whether or not she has some do the install for her. Like I said...Find a used turbo and boost the fuck out of that thing. Boosting is fun!
Slava

Yeah but if she just boosts her sohc she won't be all that fast she needs to do some more work on the engine and the boost conroller and so on so she is looking at about 3K for a turbo as well

Look, if she had $6000 bills. I would say buy a B18C beast, and boost the mutha fucker...but she's got $2000 grand to work with. In proper beliefe I think she should save another $1-2K and buy her ass a B18C and basic bolt ons for now...but since she says she's got 2K only, buy a used turbo kit for $1500 and she'll be set. So, long story short, unless she buys a new engine and turbo, she still drives a Honda and will still be slow either way. A b16 with no boost is slow, a D15 with boost is still slow. But the boosted motor is going to be far more fun than the stock B16 IMO. But, yknow...just my .02 cents.

You right. But how would you feel if you had a 16 second boosted motor?
Ohh yeah your money your car do what you want.
THRICE

I would rather run a 16 second boosted SOHC motor than a 16 second stock B16A. But that's probably just because I want a turbo in my beast really bad. :D Titus and I are going to buy Kostas old used CRX and make a fucken bad ass drag car out of it, and make my Del Sol into a fucken boosted monster with a garret t4 kit. I'm really looking forward to it.

I would love to boost my H22 but then no traction and the turbo manifold will run me about $600. But if I do talk about a 12 second car damm.
THRICE

I could probably hit 12's with BPU shit and a t4. Hmmm...What I'm really aiming for is 11's though...

I think if I put about 3K into the motor and a 75 shot with the turbo set up and slicks I think I can hit 10's. Wayn from racing trenz hit a 13.4 in his sol with only the turbo kit and a b18c1.

He hit like a 12.9 ... I've seen the pics. Plus his car is all wieghed down with ground effects and all kinds of crap like airbags and a/c and power steering and shit. I'm not ever going to use nitrous in my car to get a better time.

Not to get better time for cooling.

Naw, you don't understand. She already has a Greddy D series Turbo kit. So I would drop in a B16A and swap the D series Greddy kit over to the B16A via an HKS B series manifold. And I disagree, the Greddy D series kit is simple, cheap and functions really well, even on B16's. I know from 1st hand experience...
Thanks.

I heard that some people put the jets close to their intercooler and that way it will down the air. Thats what I hear.

Like I said... :werd: - just go with the b16a and you can keep like 95% of your turbo kit.
THRICE

Ah, I must have missed where she said she had a turbo kit already. In that case, I agree that she should swap the motor. However, I like the Maxrev turbo's better because they have external wastegates and seem to be better built. Not that Greddy is bad, because I like Greddy, but I wouldn't say their turbo's are the best.

I have no respect for greddy any more. My friend got a greddy turbo upgrade for his supra after 8k miles he had to rebuild it. Apexi turbo kits. They cost a lot but they are good.

She said obd2! b16a sirII is obd2 but costs over 2000.00.(shipped) H22, good idea thats why everyone is puttin them in their 96-00. You could buy a obd2-obd1 harness, then put a first gen b16 in your car. If you can put it in by yourself cool, but if not its 800-1000 for a "B". Your will need at least two new brackets, new shif linkage, new axels(including mid shaft). Check out hmotorsonline.com, I have bought many motors from them and am happy.

Do you know anything about japan`s laws on motors? You have to replace the motor at 30,000 or get taxed. I know people in the states that have less than that on their 94+ motor. Dont believe it, buy a full front clip w/ the odom.

I'll talk to my buddy and see if his friend still has a 99-00 B16A2 for sale. Last i remembered he wanted $2K for the full swap.
