Great improvement, no buffer marks I can see. Don't expect the failed clear to have any improvement though (only a repaint will save it (bumper.))
Dr. Jones! Ahh please don't tell me thats packaging tape.....The adhesives stick like glue, nothing the 3M stuff can't handle but I try to keep xylene away from paint.
The local Staples, Office Depot, Office Max, or office superstore should have some 3M blue painters masking tape. 1 inch wide and 60 yards in length. $4.
If worst comes to worst, Home Depot/Lowe's should have this blue tape in the painter section. Usually in 2 inch widths.
Anyway, I can't wait to see this car when its done and hear feedback about your new tools.

Yea, it is... and it is messy (especially hitting it with the buffer and spreading it all over). Though it's not making a lot of contact with itself... i folded the tape over and stuck it to itself (sticky to sticky) and to make a piece smooth on both sides, then just attached it at its ends with small pieces of tape. I couldn't find any masking tape though. Once I remove it i'm going to spray it with my 3m bug & adhesive remover, which breaks the residue up and has it wipe off easy.
Well... time to get back to work... btw if your curious I think DACP was the winner and will be used on the rest of the car. The 1z UPP was a close second... but in this case was just a little too messy.

For Jason (Or other Autopians): I dawn'd, clayed, DACP w/ LC polishing pad on the Makita, 1x AIO with PC on one of CMA's OPPs, then 2x SG (30 mins cure between with a QS QD between each coat Z style), toped with a p21s topper. Used the 1z on the glass and the klasse on the tires.
For everyone else: I did the normal wash and clay procedure, then followed up with a Meguiars product that is a strong abrasive ment for rotary buffers. That is what got rid of all the swirls and made the paint look a bit nicer. Next I followed up with a lighter abrasive that does an awesome job deeping the paint, as well as covering up the fine scratches that are left. It also removes the milky haze that is left after the stronger abrasive. Then I applied a synthetic sealent that will provide protection for months to come... followed by a coat of natural wax on top to provide that extra touch it needs to look it's best.
As for why this car.... I like a challenge, and needed to try some products out. It's nice to take a car this bad and see how far you can take it. Kind of like building a race car out of a honda motor.

I definalty have more expierence than most people... but i'd hardly say master.... There are few people I think deserve that status... (Jason is one of them).
I have all sorts of questions about stuff still, and haven't tried nearly enough products to even become an expert. Today was my frist time with a rotary...
I'm always up for sharing some tricks though

Dr. Jones, I am not quite worthy of that status yet either. I still have lots to learn and a lot of experimenting to do.
Anyway, GREAT work! I can't wait to see the car in the sun! Not to shabby for the first go around with the rotary. ;)

If I saw that car just sitting in a parking lot, I would admire the work, but also be thinking to myself... why? just, why?
Anyway, good work. And I understood almost everything in the Autopain version! I'm still a total detailing noob.

They didn't really... it was my brother's fiance's. It was more that I wanted to detail it, to see what kind of results I could get.

Looking good! And just because the car might seem lame to some of us, dosen't mean that it's anything to be ashamed of to the owner.
