When I bought my car my hood was a little oxidised (sp?) a lot of coats of cheap wax and polish later, its looks like crap (that was not my idea, all my family) I was thinking about just getting a hood out of the junk yard, paint it and put it on but that would be a pain in the ass.
got any suggestions?

if you're just going to paint the new hood anyway, you might as well just wet sand the one you have and repaint it

ps. first you should try using a circular buffer on it, you just might be able to save it, it looks pretty bad but it's worth trying

Paint the whole car.

yeah, that would cost you more, but for the best look, that is the way to go

I was going to paint the whole car until I found out it would take over $1,000 to do it. Theres a lot more stuff I would rather buy with a thousand dollars than for a better paint job. Even if it is purple:D
and I have a roatory buffer and it didn't help.

You could take it to that crappy place called MAACO, they do paint jobs from like $200 to $800 for the whole car.

that hood is going to take some heavy stuff... do you know if it's clearcoated or not?

you said you have a rotary buffer and it didn't help... what exactly did you try?
I showed your pics to some guys I know and we are discussing it. If anything i'd at least like to give it a shot.
Did the hood look like that before you tried waxing and polishing it? The discolor almost seems like some kind of film that has gathered on top. The thing to do would be to try and remove it (i have a few ideas) and then take out the heavy stuff and remove the top layer of paint. If it's non clearcoated than it wouldn't be to trick, but if it has a clearcoat that could be a lot of work (do you happen to have any rubbing compound or anything sitting around? I could tell you how to check).
I'd definatly want to take a stab at it if you'd let me. I can't really promise anything, results could be anything from it not looking much different, to finding a whole new layer of paint underneeth that stuff that makes it look 8 years younger. It would probably take some expirmamenting and some time though. If your interested let me know.
