Here are some great links for starter kill circuits...the circuit I chose to use for my car..uses a combination of a few of these..read on! :)

http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/IgnitionKillSwitch.html

http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/fbody/starterkill.htm

The first site demonstrates the use of a magnetic reed switch to make the circuit function. The 2nd site..performs a mod that activates the circuit when you hold up a certain "button" in your car. Unfortunately, the sites lack the nice circuit diagrams I had on the 3rd site that really explains it all. Needless to say, I think a circuit like this is a really good idea.

Investing $5 in parts..and 30 mins of your time could save your car. Believe me..I had mine stolen last october..you dont want to go through that.

So I'm hijacking most of their information here..such that I feel obligated to give credit to the site which posted it. Here is the original URL for the article..

http://www.the12volt.com/relays/page2.asp

Anyway, this is the circuit I built...with one minor change however, which makes the whole thing really damn cool.

This is a stand alone starter kill. It does not rely on an alarm or keyless entry for it to work, only a simple momentary contact switch (normally open) to deactivate it. Every time the ignition is turned off, continuity is broken on the starter feed wire. To disable (or start), turn ignition on, then press the hidden switch, then start as normal.

If you look at that picture, they show a momentary contact switch that you would need to press to trigger the whole thing. I figured that a smarter theif would prolly be looking for a switch of some sort anyway, so I decided to combine the idea from the first URL I posted...which involves using a magnetic switch in the circuit, with this one..and make it totally stealth.

So I got a magnetic switch from Radio Shack..the magnet will trigger the circuit from @ 1" away. You shove the little circuit somewhere behind your dash, and just put the magnetic switch back behind the dash somewhere sneaky. When you want to start your car..you turn the key to "acc" run the magnet close to where your switch is...and then you can start the car anytime you are ready..because its a clamping-type circuit. (meaning it stays closed, as long as it keeps power)

There are always other options for this circuit however..you could use ANY button in your car to trigger it, add your own, use the headlight switch, hazzard button, one of the window controls..whatever. Its just really damn cool.

Maybe, car theft isnt bad where you guys are at..but I had a honda civic before the Evo..and it got stolen. It cost me a LOT of money..so I recommend going a little crazy protecting these cars. They are damn expensive anyway..wouldnt you like to keep it?

Currently, my car has an Alpine alarm with pager system, lojack early warning, a starter kill switch, the factory computer chip key, and a very defensive owner with a shotgun. I dont worry about my car so much these days..nobody messes with it.

Here are 2 more really good examples of how you can use a simple circuit like this, and implimentation of them.

You can substitute the switch with a number of others devices such as the amp turn on lead of your head unit. Be sure to isolate it with at least a 1 amp diode. Turn the key to the run position. Allow the head unit to come on or turn it on. Now start the vehicle. If you connected to the power antenna lead, make sure the tuner is on. If you have a pullout or detachable face head unit, your vehicle will not start without it.

If you wish to use a device such as your horn, but do not want the horn to sound when you deactivate the starter kill, yet still work when driving, you can use the same configuration above on both the horn and the starter lead as shown below. The starter kill is deactivated by the positive output of the vehicle's horn relay and the horn's interrupt is deactivated by the positive output of the starter lead from the key. You could substitute the horn with other devices such as parking lights, brake lights, etc. where you do not want it to be obvious that you used the device to disable the starter kill.

So I'm getting really good at posting that thing now..I've spammed it across most of Brians sites that I'm on. Just trying to build some intrest here...since car theft in our area seems so damn out of control...I would think all of you would be jumping at the chance to build something like these. :)

I've built a few of these things already..the first one is kinda hard, but the 2nd one went really fast. I have one just chilling here on my desk actually if someone wants to see a picture of what the finished product can look like and/or buy it from me. The circuit I built is just over $20 in parts, but it works really well..if it meant the difference between someone stealing your car, and just breaking the window and trying to steal it...wouldnt it be worth it?

Of course..I'm a little far out there...and still hoping to catch someone breaking in to one of my cars. Please? :)

If anyone wants some help with these, please let me know..if you want to buy the one I have, or have some other questions..post 'em. Its not like I have anything else to do these days. Unemployment sucks! :(

You'd be suprised..I never thought mine would get jacked either.

wow, thats a sweet kill circuit. Id think about making one, but my DSM isnt what you would call a "High Theft" vehicle. I dont think ive ever heard of someones 1G being stolen and stripped. Thank god for low resale! :D

:werd: I look in the fast times list and every car there is either 90's or 00's, then I see mine, 1978... Talk about low resale!

why would anyone steal somthing that has a 85% chance of breaking down during the getaway :D :D

i wouldn't mind. it'll give me an excuse to get a corolla and never mod another car again.

the one involving the amp remote wire im super interested in. if you were to make one of those for me, what would you charge? obviously i would pay for the shipping and all that, but for parts and labor what would you say? pm me or email me.

I have somehting like that in my car, it uses a switch in the driver seat, if your weight is on the seat it won't start, I only activate it when I leave my car somewhere I'm really worried about it, it seemed like a great idea at the time but raising my butt off the seat to start the car gets old.
