Lets see some. I get asked to detail tons of black, white and silver cars.... very few blue, red, yellow, etc.... if you got them let's see 'em. Yea black looks awesome detailed, but a really deep finish with lots of collor can look pretty darn impressive too.
If anyone wants some help bringing the color out in their car post here and i'll see what i can recomend.

Is that paint on your hood very badly oxidized or just missing... it's hard to tell from that angle. Do you happen to have any closeups of it?

I will get a picture of my hood in the morning. It was a little oxidized. But then my dad did a coat of polish on it, made it look great, then it went back to the oxidation. About 5 coats of wax later my hood looks like crap. Its pretty much white now:(

hard to see... but I've got some pretty nasty swirls and dull spots on the hood from a really shitty body shop doing some crap finish work... I've tried some rubbing compounds, they helped a little, now I just have lots of scratches... any recommendations? what kind of wax should I be looking at? I also have a white toyota tacoma, should I use the same wax??
doctor doctor, gimme the news........ :D

From those photos it doesn't look to bad. Swirls and scratches are easy to take care of if they aren't to deep. If they are it takes some heavier stuff and a the right skills. No wax is going to make a huge difference in those, but in general i'm a fan of p21s or s100. The s100 you can get at harley dealerships, p21s you can get from nick at www.detailersparadise.com (he's local so you can pick it up directly).
You could use either of those waxes (they are the same just different packaging) on both vehicles, though really most the shine comes from what's done before the wax. But that's a whole nother subject.

thanks, thats one of our local "haunted" warehouses....
so what should I be doing to get some of the swirl, there is even some stuff I'd describe as haze (i think its on the surface, cause it feels wierd to the touch, like its dusty, just a little rough.) out of the hood?

that color would be kind of interesting to play around with.
Is that Meguiars Endurance Tire Gel (smells like grapes) on your tires?

sorry just saw this one. If they are lighter swirls than a product called Klasse AIO (all in one) works amazing. You can get it from Nick (www.detailersparadise.com). Even by hand application you can really make a difference. Anything more severe than than what that product will get really takes a buffer, some more abrasive products, and a little expierence. If that's the case i would recomend finding someone who has done it before and let them help you with them.

That would of been my second guess. That shade of black is perfect for that car. It's always hard to get the tires with just the right ammount of gloss and darkness.
Well, I'm a new user on this site (I come from ClubCivic.com), and I figure I might as well add my first post to my favorite forum section. So, here's my 1998 Civic EX coupe.

nice, makes me wish I had a red car (black is such an overrated color)
this thread is over a year old, lol
I know, but I was reading through all of the detailing threads. :D I was thinking this thread is hella old, but oh well. Gotta start somewhere. Thanks for the compliment btw. :)

Red looks nice and deep. What products/process did you use?
I mostly use Meguiar's products. She has been through the works! (That's including clay.) I have tried several different waxes and surrently have Meguiar's Hi-Tech Yellow Wax on her and the black '93 Firebird Formula in the background has the NXT wax. The Firebird actually belongs to my boyfriend (that's right, I'm a 21 year old woman) and the paint has seen better days. Two panels have been repainted and the rear bumper has some bad cracking in the paint. I just try to hide it as best as I can. Ever since I first convinced my boyfriend to let me detail it though he's been getting more into keeping his car clean. He got home from work and told me all about how it got stared at all day long. Flowmasters on a 350 LT1 help to get attention too though. lol
Btw DrJones, I see you're quite the celebrity here. I was just looking at those pics of the red Volvo. Damn! Great job. I'd like to hopefully learn a bit from you so I can pass it on to everyone on ClubCivic too. My biggest problem on my car would have to be the water spots on the glass. I just can't seem to remove them! :(

try vinegar, it worked on mine
Dr.Jones is our bish, ill be whipping out my extremely awsome F-150 detail job pics here in a couple days that will make him wet his panties
Here, might as well post some photos up of the Firebird too, though it's black.

now if you could only fix the Pontiac problem that would be perfect ;)
He can't even forgive them for making the Grand Am..... He hates those cars so bad.

Pontiacs aren't so bad. They got a little spunk to them. Its actually one of the few domestics I like.
Oh, I do like the Firebird. I'm not into most of the rest of the Pontiac line though.

If you have some clay left, try it on the windows, it sometimes will remove those nasty spots that other things won't.

50/50 water and vinegar
I'll try the clay bar. I have previously tried several different thing recommended to me by Honda and other Honda enthusiasts. Nothing has worked, not even oven cleaner.

Alright, I have been experimenting with several products.
First time I "cleaned" the paint I used the following:
Mothers clay bar
meguiar nxt wax
No polish or anything else.
Before:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNDQ2OTI5NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
Yea nice swirl marks
After clay and nxt wax:
http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNDQ2OTMwNnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
But now after 3-4 months the shine is gone  and I have already ordered meguiars clay bar, polish and #16 wax :D . Here are some other shots to see the paint:

http://www.we-todd-did-racing.com/wetoddimage.wtdr/wNDQ2OTA2NnM0MTNkZmQzMXk1NDE%3D.jpg
The hood is all chipped up from the tons of rocks poured on the roads year in/out. The paint is kind of a sandy black/charcoal but at night or in the shade it looks like a dark grey or black. Kinda cool OEM paint :D

Dr. Jones--
I need a good detail and wax before winter on my Runner and it's a dark red;would you be interested?
PM me a price on a full paint detail;my paint is good but needs a good cleaning and really needs the red brought back out.
I also have a friend with a dark green Jetta that would also like to give you his business as I've showed him some of your threads with pics.
Thanks
-Paul
