This is another paint defect (kind of like swirls) that cause a car to look ugly. Only thing is there isn't too much you can do about it other than getting really into it (ie wet sanding the vehicle and doing some work with a buffer).

It's basically caused from the clear coat being not perfectly smooth. It has small spots that are uneven (like the surface of an orange). It causes a wavy kind of reflection, like if a photoshop filter was run on it or something.

It basically looks like this (not my car, but shows a very good picture of what orange peel is)

You can see how the picture isn't very clear and is kind of wavy, especially around the edges where there is a strong color change. If you look at your paint up close chances are you'll see the same effect.

Just about every car has it. Especially when you get down low on the side. That pic is of a black F150.

The first car i've seen up close that didn't have any, was the black NSX here last night. The paint wasn't in the best condition (car was a 96 and been a daily driver it's whole life) but was definatly some of the best quality i've seen.

I've been debating if I want to get into wet sanding or not. It's a fairly straightforward process, just takes quite a bit of time to do it right. Would people here be interested in it?

EDIT: Changed the pic to show it a little better

yea, it's kind of like touch up paint. You can just run down to checker and buy some stuff and do it, but to do it right you really have to know what you are doing.

I know that it was a joke man! I used to wet sand but havent since I now am above that kind of thing, since I dont have a car worth the time. (not yet anyway)
