honestly.....has anybody ever experienced horsepower gain just by changing the underdrive pullies and timing gears to aftermarket?? a guy told me he felt the difference, i say he's crazy.

It's possible, but for the minimal gains, you are risking engine damage from a solid pulley, as it's not damping out crank resonances anymore.
And if you get too radical on the pulley sizes to get the most gain, you'll probably run into cooling and charging issues....

I have a set of AEM pulleys on my b16 and they really dont do much. I however wont change out the crank pulley for my daily drive for the reasons said above. I only put them on the car since I got them for dirt cheap from a friend.

I'm assuming your referring to lightened pullies such as AEM's power steering and alternator pullies? If so, then no, they make very little power if any at all, and no, you would not be able to feel the power.
By timing gears I'm assuming your referring to cam gears? You can get adjustable cam gears that need to be dyno tuned to make a few extra horsepower if your lucky.

All it does is free up horsepower that is already there, it doesn't add more. But you will only get like 2-3hp, but whatever. Ricers are weird.

actually it depends on your state of tune. Like said above, it just frees up hp that is already there. If you have alot of hp and you want to free up a few %, it might will make a difference. Same with cam gears. If you have a high hp engine, and you adjust the timing, you could see decent gains (especially DOHC). But, no matter what, if your going all out, every little bit adds up.
