Please delete your old pm's

Last night while working on the server, I noticed that our database was over 400 MB which is huge for a site of this size. One of the things taking up a lot of space are the 10's of thousands of pm's. Please go into your inboxes and delete your old ones. On the home page of the site where you enter your private messages it says how many you have in all of your folders. I would like that to be below 50.

This is easy to do. Simply go into your pm inbox and in the grey area there is a check box that will select all next to the words Date/Time Sent. Then click delete. Before doing that though make sure the show messages from drop down box is set to "the beginning". After you empty that out go into your sent items folder and do the same in there.

I noticed that mine were getting out of hand the other day too..its weird because you just totally lose track of how many messages you have in there. When you send stuff with a read receipt, keeping it in your sent folder, blah blah..they really tend to stack up on you without being able to realize they are there. I did just as 1EightT suggested...just check ALL the folders you might have in there..many of you will be surprised I think. I know I was.

Yeah in the database there were over 550,000 pm's. Divide that by 2300 members and you can see the problem...lol

is it just my mailbox? but after i deleted all the non essential ones, i only have 4 in my mailbox, but it says i still have 67

Go into the sent folder and delete those ones as well.

We've already saved 8MB from just the PM's. I cut down another 150MB by pruning all of the attachments older than 6 months.

What about deleting members that have 0 posts and that have been registered for over 6 months...

you know something else that might save on space? Deleting people who have made 0 posts in 1 years time, and emailing people who haven't posted in 2 years time warning of deletion within 3 months if they do not post something.

Of course naturally I would oblige and help ya out here by deleting my PM's.. but ya know.. I think I've gotten like 3 or 4 since I've been on this site, I'm not popular. lol
