Hi,

I'm still a little new to HAI but saw the posts about people's cars getting stolen. Here's my 2 cents.

After reading about some of the car thefts, I did a quick search on the Net. This is what I came up with.

* It is suprisingly easy to steal a car (duh!). If someone has the time and the patience, your car will be gone. However, most (not all) car thieves will not stick around if they can't get the car started quickly.

* At least one page detailing theft deterence measures that will get you reduced insurance if installed, mentioned these. This makes me guess that they are effective, since insurance CO's do not quickly reduce anyone's policy premiums.

* Here are at three simple, cheap, effective theft deterence measures you can take. Of course, they also create a nuisance factor for the owner in that they are not effective if not used ;-)

1. Install a manual ignition primary cutoff switch.
2. Install a manual Starter solenoid wire cutoff switch.
3. Install a fuel cutoff switch.

Of course, the above switches should be installed under the hood in an inconspicuous if not relatively inacessable spot. As I said above, these are theft *deterence* measures, it being almost impossible to completely stop a skilled, determined, skumbag thief.

If this is obvious, old stuff, I appologize.

I hope this helps,

Tom

you have to remember when you install a switch that you might have to rewire that wire with a smaller gauge(thicker wire) wire because installing that switch will up the resistance and it might not be able to hold that. But, you will know if you need to do that.
