Hey guys, gotta come here to ask this question b/c im a 1.8t person ;)
what's the top speed of an N/A 300zx stock? (i think it's N/A 'cause i can't hear a turbo when he starts it and drives off).
So i work w/ this guy, and he has a 300zx he's fixin up (so TFTF it's sick)...and he says he's raced it and hit 165-175mph and could still go but he was scared cause the car was shaking. Now i DO NOT believe him, but don't know anything about that car. Is there something I'm missing? Short of him putting a HUGE tranny in there (i believe it's an auto, i can go check though) is that even physically possible?
I'm not racing him, so don't think that's why i'm asking. I just want to know the truth and there's no chance i'm letting this guy show me...he did that run on H rated tires! frickin maniac, or just an ignorant bastard, but which ever let me know what you guys think :)
thanks

I do know that the TT models are speed limited to 155 but the NA models probably just have enough power to hit 150 but that's on very flat road and plenty of room.

Also tell him I'll race him.

165-175?!?! I don't think so. My dad has a NA 300ZX and it will top out at about 147-148.

It's possible that his speedo is fucked up a bit. I'm trapping at close to 100 at the track when I look at my speedo, but Bandi timeslips say I'm doing 86-89

Lol! I don't think the 300ZX speedo even registers that high (not sure though).
no way, na 300 will go 165 mph, its just not happening.

I raced a 300zx n/a and beat him on acceration from 30mph to 125mph. He probably would of caught up to me later down the road if we kept going.
a TT with an ECU upgrade will go close to 160.

A chipped TT will go way beyond 160.........

Like most people have said, I don't think there's any way that can be right. Maybe on a highly modified car, but not stock.

we did a top speed pull on the dyno with a chipped tt and it went 181.

I thought this was about the NA model? Nobody's doubting the TT's capabilities.

I was letting everyone know my experiance. I saw a post saying 160 for a upgraded tt. Thanks.
I was trying to sell a V6 Camaro to a kid once, and on the test drive he told me his chipped Hyndai would do 160. I was like "okay, what ever you say."

How does a dyno pull substantiate a top speed claim? There's no aerodynamic drag when the car's not moving forward . . .

haha, mkivsupra = ;OwnEd;
dyno "top speed" is going to give nothing other than speed at redline in highest gear, which is easy just to calculate by hand. it's riduclous and stupid to even take a dyno run that fast.

because you're only finding what the gears wind out to. a supra with an decent to large size turbo will have the power to get there.
i remember john talkin about hittin 180 on the freeway, & that had a t-66
goin 180 on a dyno is really frickin fast tho...

goin 180 on a dyno is really frickin fast tho... You can find out what the top speed would theoretically be with a simple mathematical formula though. Anyone that would haev to test it on a dyno is either stupid or ....well...no that's about the only reason.
