I got my mr2 alittle while back and it finally blew the headgasket. I found another engine/tranny/intercooler for $1000. The engine had aprox 80k on it. I'm not sure what went wrong with my engine but the tranny on mine is grinding in 2nd gear so I'm gonna go for this seeing as most of my parts have already been spoken for. Will the engine pass emissions, I've already registered the car I just havent done emissions yet.

ah yes, I think the only things I'll have to swap are the speed sensor and something with the tps sensor...not quite sure yet though.
everything should work, emissions is not going to tell that the new motors from a 91. You ever get a chance to call the number i gave you so you can go look at it?

I called the guy today and I'll go check the engine out on Thurs. I think the tranny is sold, still waiting to hear about the turbo though. I'm hoping I'll have the money together within a week, and then just alittle more time to get the 2 running.

Just an FYI it's illegal to swap in an older motor. Don't know if that's something that would bother you or not.

My old car had a B16A from a 93 civic and my car was made in 94. No one at emissions asked questions then, I'm hoping they wont this time. If they do I'm just gonna say I bought the car like that.

They have enough trouble finding where the engine is, and which lever it is to pop the lid, I doubt they will even have a clue its not the stock motor.

anything is possibly, Im merely trying to say the chance of it happening is slim. If they were to ask, like you said, tell them you bought it that way.

I checked out the new motor and its clean, very good shape 80k miles. Hopefully I can have my parts sold within a week and have my car running again.

well... 1990-1993 are both 2nd gen 3sgte's right? i couldve sworn that the motor itself is exactly the same, i know that there were a few differences in the car like the LSD tranny and bigger brakes ? but i assume the motor is exactly the same internally... 200 hp and 200 tq right? as the 89-previous was 180? hp and 180? tq?

There is no differance in the engine, the speed sensor in the 93+ are electronic as opposed to a gear driven speedo in the 91's. That's what I'm hoping are the only differences.

Care to tell me where the law says that? I sure didn't find it in the Colorado Revised Statutes when I looked. I'm going to have to throw the bullshit flag here. It sounds like yet another stupid CA law that everyone just assumes is federal for some reason.
And the emissions people will never know anyway. I don't even remember them opening my hood, let alone knowing what the hell my engine is supposed to look like and the minor differences between each year. And even if they did know that, and I had an engine swap, then so what... I don't see any law prohibiting it, so you should be fine as long as the emissions levels pass.

Kinda sucks, my tranny is LSD, gonna miss it. The 91 didnt have the option :( . The upgraded intercooler and working engine are worth it though.

Why not yank out the diff and throw it in the other tranny?

I'm selling the tranny as is, cant pull anything. I'll just buy a 3rd gen tranny later and solve all possible problems with the sycros. A running car is more then I can ask for right now anyway.
