I think that Chevy 454 isn't here to hate on imports, but rather to hate on ricers. I do that all the time on G2IC (ask Bee, he probably sees me), but since I don't have any American car manufatures in my name, they just think I'm an ass. I put him in the same catagory as Batman RS, just a guy who sees stuff that is stupid, stands up and says something, and because his name says Chevy, everyone thinks he is a redneck. Riceburner however, needs to race a fast import and not his friends 89 Prelude so he has a little better idea about what's out there.

Well, you've just demonstrated your ignorance here. There's no such thing as "v tec". It's "VTEC", and that still isn't a car, it's a very overhyped feature that some Honda engines have. Even the slow ass Civic EX has VTEC, but I'll blow it away with my non-VTEC.

You, like most people, are completely ignorant about what VTEC actually does and why the engine has it.

Oh, and the POS that you told us you had before isn't running no 13's. More like 17's at sea level. I guess that's the advantage of being out of state... you can just make up any BS you like because no one here will ever see you in person.

Because there are more 9 second DSMs than 11 second 3KS cars (3000GT/Stealths). They are heavy and break t-cases and trannys more than DSMs. Likely the guy you were racing probably was pulling a max of 105mph traps, maybe 110 if he was one of the smart 3KS owners but I doubt you ran into one of the very, very few that are faster than that.

I'm going to try and get low 13s out of my street DSM with odds and ends I have laying around my garage. That's at altitude mind you.

3000GTs are hard pressed to run mid 14s and I ran mid 14s with just a couple of mods including a MBC pushing only 16psi.

no offense but either you dont know how to drive, or your not that educated on 3S's or something was deathly wrong with the one you raced.

I ran a 14.1 up here, on STOCK boost, Intake and a 3 inch exhaust, when i boost to 14.5 ill get into the high 13's.

Also running 16 psi on stock fuel is very risky, the limit most people put on stock fuel is 15 psi..

When my car ran a 13.4 it was faster than all but two 3KS cars in the state. Don't know about now. There was another guy who had a ton of mods and a really gay paintjob but I don't know if he ever ran good at the strip.

My car has more mods now but no new times. If you want to learn more about DSMs check the link in my signature to "the best DSM tech EVER". A guy in PA just ran 9.4 with no nitrous and somewhat basic mods in his 90 DSM.

DSMs do not own all but they offer a certain bang for the buck and ease to go fast that not many other cars have. Got mine into the 13s for $600, then another $110 got me a 13.4. I was doing it all wrong though. On my street car I plan to get it into the 13s for even less money but armed with a lot more brain power if you know what I mean.

I said they ran mid 14s BONE stock and at sea level most run on a good day 13.4s. You added the exhaust and an intake,that can make up the 4 tenths better you ran so I do know my stuff.

Freeing up air flow is a big deal on a turbo car;my car dropped a half a second with just an intake and a 2 3/8s inch exhaust and 10.5psi which is STOCK on a T/E/L.

Now I'm validating myself since I have seen plenty of 3000GTs run at Bandi bone stock in the ten years I've been racing.

There's two ways to make a fast Honda. Boost or a crazy NA setup (hot cams, 12:1 compression, lots of headwork blah blah blah...)with a lot of weight reduction. Both cost serious money.

The typical DOHC VTEC Honda isn't all that fast, they're just fun to drive.

i got confused on the last page, i thougth you were talkin about 3S's when you said 16psi and all that... no worries..

and the guy with the spyder, with the "gay" paint job, actually isnt that modded hes runnin mild boost on 13g's. Its a show car not a race car. As for the paint job I have yet to see something more creative on HAI, COSR or any other local car.

Easier yes. Cheaper, sometimes but not always. Not to metion the fact that when you drive a 12 second Civic (for example) you pay for insurance on a 17 second car.

What younger person can afford to insure an F-body? For a driver under 18, an LS1 is about $400 a month to insure. Never mind payments.

10 years ago an old muscle car would have been a good choice, but with the resurgance of car enthusiasts these classic cars are worth a lot more money these days and they really only run fast in a straight line (vs. the newer Pony cars which handle well and accelerate well). There's also the big myth that all the old cars run 13's when in fact only a very small percentage actually do. In stock trim most old muscle cars run 14's and 15's which is the same as some of the more popular sport compacts (the Civic Si, My car, VW GTIs....).

The whole sport of Hot Rodding has always been about taking cheap cars and turning them into something special. In that respect the young drivers of these little sport compacts have much more in common with the original Hot Rodders than the guys who start off with fast cars do.

newt2 has a point. I could have afforded a Supra awhile back but the insurance was just murder and then if anything breaks it's so much more expensive than a DSM. Plus aftermarket parts are more expensive. Plus I also think it's easier/cheaper to run 11s in a DSM than a Supra.

So then you've got a rusted out car with a torn up interior for about 6 to 8 grand. But hey, it's fast right? In a straight line because no matter how you cut it no Chevelle is going to handle like a modern sporty car regardless of what country it was made in. Sorry not my deal.

Maybe you like a project like that, if so good for you. I freely admit I don't have the skill or motivation to take a rusted out POS and turn it into a shiny good as new hot rod. I respect people who do that kind of stuff, I just don't want nor could I (without a HUGE learning curve anyway) if I wanted to. I don't have the time to learn body work. I don't have the time to learn how to paint cars. I don't have the time to learn how to refinish interiors. I have a job and a kid to take up most of my time, I'm lucky if I can get out in the garage long enough to put a header on my Integra (which takes about an hour).

A fully restored 67 Chevelle SS goes for nearly what I paid for my car new. Combine that with the fact that it blue books at less than half of that and you'll never get it unless you have the cash on hand because nobody will finance you.

One thing I really don't understand is why you guys who like your old cars simply refuse to accept that something new came along. It always happens. You may want to drive the car your father did (my Dad had an 11 second Chevelle SS when I was a kid), but I don't. You may think that your Dads music was the best ever, I don't (I think classic rock is played out and couldn't care less if I never hear another Led Zepplin song in my life). Life would be really boring if the only kind of cars people raced were 30+ years olds with carbs.

I really think you anti Import guys need to get over it. Imports are not going away. You can scream about how it's just a fad but we've been at the track for nearly 10 years now. You can call them peices of shit, but you don't have to drive them. You can call them "cookie-cutter" but what's so unique about your Chevy? Are you the only guy in the country with a 454 Chevy? Of course not. Being into cars is a hobby and it's supposed to be fun. Concentrate on your car and quit caring about what other people drive because it's none of your business.
