Well lately, when I shift down a gear, it grinds when I put it in, let's say third. Tonight I almost got rear ended, and had to chase the fucker down to get his plate, so I put it in second nice and slow and it did the same thing. It does go into gear fine, I'm just wondering if it's time to visit Ghandi for a clutch install, or if the synchros are taking a shit. Can anyone tell me what's gong on? I know NOTHING when it comes to trannys. I can meet with anyone to show the problem as I want to get it taken care of ASAP.

When my tranny went bad, it would only grind when I tried to put it in first when I was rolling.

My tranny has a hard time and sometimes grinds going into reverse, but that's about it.

You might have synchro issues. If your clutch were causing hte grind it would most likely be all gears. A slipping clutch does not cause grinds. When i had my trans apart I had to do all syncs in it. Its not uncommon.

The synchro sets vary form car to car, I usually charge $395 for an entire trans overhaul plus parts on Civic/Integra trans'. (this also includes labor on a new clutch if needed) Parts are always dependant on the needs of the transmission.

Its common for those to go in third, it will continue to get worse until eventually it wil begin damaging the gear face and destroy the transmission.

i thought reverse doesn't have syncros that is why it grinds in reverse in the car is rolling.

Reverse is not synchronized for obvious reasons. It also a straight cut gear so it will sometimes grind or be difficult to engage.

arent you supposed to fully stop the car before putting it in reverse anyways??

Time to save up 395 then! Your garage will be paid in full. Even though I'm not sure my problem is as bad as it seems, I'll let you look at it first. Either way, you're getting some money.
