Check out openroadracing.com !!!
I might be up for the last event of the year. I will probably start in the 125 mph catagory since I don't have a roll bar.

Yeah, it sounds cool at first... but, it's a few hundred bucks, the regulations limit most of us to uninteresting speeds, and going at a high speed in a straight line for 100 miles would get real boring after a few minutes. Assuming the regulations even allow you to find your top speed, once you find it, there's no more excitment and you still have a lot of miles to go.
And I thought Nascar was boring!

That is true. I think if they did like a few mile strip, so two cars can reach their top speed. That would be cool.

Yeah, I've heard of doing like a 5 mile strip so you can find your top speed. I'd like to do that.

eh, how did you come to that conclusion?
I'm thinking mine's in the 140's somewhere... I know it at least goes to 130 easily and wants to keep going, but I haven't had the opportunity to try for faster.
fastest ive gotten my 97 ls to is 130
this looks like it would be fun though if it was split, 50 miles of straight, and 50 miles of fun fun curves :)

Just pretend the dashed yellow lines are the cones.

Yeah, I hope to be at trials too. iirc, there's a 40 car limit though.

they should do it where you have to cross a certian point at a certain time so you have to very your speed all the time, i was talkin to a guy that did a race like this it was like a calculus problem...
1 train leaves LA for Denver at 40 MPH.
1 Train leaves Denver for LA at 60 MPH.
Where will they hit?
its that kind of stuff.

Cmon guys, let's get a group together on this. I saw the Pony Express last year and there are indeed curves. Maybe at 65 the roads are straight. Not at 100. Check out the course notes on the website. Long uphills and downhills into sweepers. There is a canyon section that is particularly awesome with big sweepers throughout. I might even buy a rollbar, harness, and fire extinguisher so that I can do the GT and have a max speed of 140. Those of you with SCCA and club competition licenses can go 165. Maybe next year I'll go for one of those too.

P.S. I don't see a single Supra or any other Japanese cars in the photos on the website. We should roll in there in force!

:D :D :D
I noticed how expensive the race is. But how often can you drive at over 100 for a long time and not worry about the law.
Also, I noticed that on the forum the drivers hint that they are driving like mad on the practice runs. Way over target speed.
I'll probably need a bigger radiator too.
