thats illegal.u can have anything in the back, or on the back sides, but the front side windows must be 27% or lighter to be legal.

i thought 20% is still legal, yeah i wanted 20% on the front side and 5% on the back side and on the back.
LeonZ

the front side can only have 27%, that's it. everything else is whatever you want (except the windshield of course). so basically if you have 20 on front side, it is illegal. i have 20 all around, and ive never had problems, i had cops drive aside me, but ive never had trouble with it. i do know some people who had been ticketed for limo tint though.

Actually. The legal limit here in Colorado is 27% if you do all the windows. If you tint the back half, in anything darker than the legal limit, like limo or 20%, it still is legal, IF there is nothing, and by nothing I mean nothing, not 30% not 50%, on the front two windows. It is illegal if you tint in limo, or anything darker than 27% here, but it's not too big a deal. So to answer your question, yes you can tint the back half in limo, and the front in 20, but no, it wont be legal. I say just do it like 20% all around, nice and easy. 5% has more chance to fade because it's usually not a metallized film.

I got my tints done and if i get ticketed for it the joint takes it off for the police, then puts it back on for no charge at any tint i want.....no money wasted, as long as i pay ten bucks extra when i get it done
LeonZ
05-21-2003, 05:14 PM
Uhh...why? You aren't required to take it off for the police... You just get a fine.

Just tint all the windows 5%, even the front. It sucks driving at night though.
LeonZ
05-21-2003, 05:50 PM
I wouldn't do a 5%, too much risk getting pulled over.

I've had 13% all around for a almost a year and a half now and haven't been hasseled about it at all. I've only been pulled over once since I got it (which is amazing), and he didn't say anything about my tint or lack of a front plate... he just gave me a verbal not-even-warning for driving like a nut.
Weston-work
05-21-2003, 06:56 PM
And the limit is 27% all around, or anything in the back if the fronts are 70% or higher. Those percentages are in VLT, so 5% is dark, and 50% looks just about clear.
Depending on the cop, they will make you peel it on the spot if you get caught.

how does 5% tint look in the back in the day and night when ur driving?
Weston-work
05-21-2003, 08:45 PM
5% is super dark. You'll have trouble seeing out of it at night in places that aren't well lit.

People have gotten the front windshield and it looks tight, but i think it's a little dangerous.

Geez nobody sees my HAI PRICES or something. 130 for a 2 door, 150 for a 4 door. It's a metallic film and the distributor offers a Limited Lifetime warranty against the film fading, and I offer a lifetime warranty on labor.

Do it with Jai SI, he does good work and will give you everything that place will give you including warranty. And no, I'm not a fan of metallic tints.

Why aren't you a fan a metallized tint? I'm not because it's harder to do back windows with lol.

I like dark tint on a dark car or dark tint on a light colored car

Too bad the tickets arent worth all that fucking bother. I got the minimum fine when I had my tint. $50...soooo.....
Besides..once you get the FIRST ticket, then get another one...they would prolly impound your car. Think about it.

What does metallized film have to do with how dark or light it is?
Weston-work
05-22-2003, 07:13 PM
I got mine done for $200 and that was a discounted rate because my friend knows the owner (that's also how I got him to do under 27%). So, Jai SI's prices are excellent.
What's the difference with metalic tint? Is that the reflective stuff?
LeonZ
05-22-2003, 07:26 PM
That's what I thought, I'm probably not using the right terminology...
Jai SI

No it's not the shiny stuff, that's mirror tint, metallic tint is like what the tint is made of. There are typically two kinds of tint. One's a dye film, good to fade within 1-2 years, maybe ever sooner depending on how long you leave the car in the sun and all. And there's fully metallized film which is supposed to never fade or anything, but that stuff costs a lot of money. Well, I guess there's another kind, partially metallized film which is a combination of dye and metal. That's what I use. I've never had a problem with it, and it is easier to work with. And pretty much all 5%/limo tint is a dye film, which is why if you look at limos that a about a year or so old, the tint will be purple. Depending on what kind of tint they used it may or may not be purple looking at it from the outside. Llumar film turns like a dark blue when it fades so you can't really tell when it's faded, except on the inside when it's nice and purple. The stuff that I use is supposed to never fade, I know the owner of the company personally and he swears the stuff would never fade, after so many tests in certain conditions and all. I personally haven't been around that kind of tint too long so I don't know. But I've been watching my car and it's not even hinting any fade at all, and I tinted it about 7 months ago.

Yeah the stuff you're thinking about is mirror tint. I think he was talking about metal film itself.

wow yeah I think I might get a tint with Jai SI, yeah mirror tint is sorry... I just want a fairly dark tint that doesn't bubble, fade or turn purple. I also heard that a metallized tint repels more heat- which is something I really want. that's why I said the metallic tint, I think I will get a 20% tint with the stuff that he said he uses (part metallic part whatever else).
anyone suggest getting the sunroof tinted too or not?
Jai SI- where are you located, what's the name of your shop etc.? I gotta raise $10 more and I will be able to get it done!

I'm doing it out of my garage at my house right now. I have a garage, but I do dent and auto repair there, and it's dusty as hell so I don't like to tint there. I'm in the Westy area. I can do your sunroof for you if you want too, extra 10 bucks.

Hey sorry i haven't had a chance to reply to you yet, but if it isn't too late I can do it on Sunday in the afternoon if that's good with you. If not we can wait until the next weekend or whenever you are free, weekdays are ok too if they're good for you. But yeah just in case you don't see this for some reason, I'll be giving you a call on Sunday to check up and see what's going on, and if you do see this, give me a call and let me know what you wanna do. Cool? Oh my number's 303-601-7854. Oh yeah you have a 00 Civic 2door right? Thanks - Jai.

I have 15% all around on my car and I love it. No hassles from the cops either. It's great for daytime to keep the sun out and still relatively easy to see out of at night.

mad props to Jai- he tinted my windows, 20% (pretty sure it's 20) all around plus roof for $140, he did a real good job. people have already said it looks tight and it seems almost everybody noticed! There don't appear to be any bubbles, the film dried out nicely and I don't see any problem areas- good job! we'll see how it looks in a year... hahaha peace!
Jai SI
05-29-2003, 04:22 AM
Well thanks for the props man. Like I said though, IF there are any problems just let me know and I'll take care of it for you. Oh yeah that's 20% by the way. Looks darker at night, but right at 20% in the day, that dark interior helps a lot too. Don't know if you noticed, but I have the same stuff on my car and your car looks way darker.

Jai, could you do my car (same car as stockcivic) but with something more like 35% to 45%? I had 20% on my old car and it was just too dark for me, so I figured I go with something a bit lighter. Doing the moonroof sounds cool too. Also, maybe for me you can do a package deal... I have 3 dents that I want to get out... I can take pictures of them if you want and post them up. Lemme know. Thanks!
Jai SI
05-29-2003, 12:19 PM
Well the only tint that I have now is 20%, and I have a huge roll of that left. Sure I can do a package deal for you if you wanted to go with the 20% and the dent repair. But it's going to be a while until I get anything darker for lighter than the 20% tint. Let me know if you want to get it done. Oh yeah if you give me a picture of those dents I can give you a rough estimate on how much the repairs will cost, not too much though.

nope, I don't want 20%. For one, it's illegal, and for 2, my eyes are bad enough as it is, let alone at night... 20% and I might as well not even bother driving at night at all.
