INstruction through a MSF course is strictly up to you whether or not you want to take it, it's not required.. However if you have never rode a bike or are VERY inexperianced I would definetly recommend taking one.
Now in order to obtain your endorsement you will have to pay a licensing fee around $30, and take a written and a road test. All of which is arranged through the DOL....

This is just skimmin' off the top, so if ya need or want any more info just ask:cool:

lookin for a bike less then 2500, bigger then 250cc smaller then 1000cc, i really want an 88 gsxr750 because i love the way they look, dont really care for what the others look like. Other then that zx6 and zx7, yxf 600 and 750, cbr 600, pretty much anything would be cool, i dont need alot of speed, i want a bike you lay on, not ride upright, i want it to look sporty.. 93< are too epensive and they didnt really make a sport bike till 87 as far as i have seen...

my ex gf's dad (still friends with) is a motorcycle instructor for i think he said abate so ill learn/test/get licensed through him, hes got a turbo harley :D

I just looked it up in the AIMS course book again today and that's about right for the abate/MSF class. That's about what I paid. Well worth the money considering the things you learn and practice in that class can save your life and keep you from developing bad habits that you will ride with forever.

Definitley recommend the ABATE course. They ROCK! If you're cool like me, you'll get offered a job! And when you stop good they'll announce that you have made the earth move. Sorry about the rambling, it's just a few little hints at how cool they are!
