View Full Version : fear the evo?

Well..had some interesting times tonight..a few psudo "races" and one plain just plain stupid act of violence against the highway and our tires/clutches/fuel....

First of all...I had a lot of cars run away in fear after I rolled up next to them in my car, I dont get it..maybe some people actually know what it is now? Anyway...a few of these I counted as kills...just because it was SO obvious they didnt want to be next to ME but revved on everyone else out there...lame.

However, this includes a fawking VIPER...yes...the same Viper...v10 monster and all that..I seriously think the guy did NOT want to be next to me at a light...he ran like a little girl after driving like a total asshole.

Then...we went home shortly after midnight..there was a Galant VR4 on the highway that really, really, wanted a piece of my car. We took off from a roll..it was pretty close there..didnt get a real feel for how fast he was...THEN...we managed to end up all alone at a stoplight. Bad things for the E8 after that...I heard his rev-limiter banging away..and I just knew I was going to get my ass kicked. Anyway, I lit my car up a bit and we both took off pretty good..but he KILLED me off the line..and I wasnt reeling him in either...it was frightening. The guy was totally cool about it however, I think he was the same person I was talking to at Bandimere about our cars. Needless to say...I felt a little ;OwnEd;
but it was still fun as hell. That car was stupid, insane, silly, fast...we exchanged thumbs up..and headed our seperate ways. Talk about a car you DONT want to race tho'...wow. :)

If he can hand my evo its ass like that...you better be pretty quick on the street, or you are just going to get spanked.

It's nice having AWD cause we can pretty much match our strip times on the street. 1.8 60's with ease is nice.

I saw you up there mike around 11:45 or so but you were on the opposite side from me so I flipped a bitch and tried to catch you within the speed limit but you were gone

I am waiting for December to roll around then I'll throw up some competition with mike. His lancer vs. my STI.

You just need a couple mods on that thing...

Viper owners are NOTORIOUS for running scared. I have tried to race about 6 or 7 the last couple years, and NONE of them come through. Your story is no surprise...

Was the Galant white? Might be a guy Jack, VERY QUICK I heard. Was it around Aurora? What highway?

Yeah..it was white, it was kinda funny because it looked like he had the factory muffler on it still..maybe a 1.75" pipe out of there at best...but I think he was just running open downpipe, or maybe its just a super freaky muffler. We were just fawking around on 287..so pretty far from Aurora.

The guy in the viper was weaksauce..I wouldnt have "raced" him on main in Longmont anyway...obviously, but running like a little girl when you have a car like that? Thought it was funny.

Good stuff anyway..apparently my car is very popular with the 15-18 yr old crowd of girls...and older guys. Hopefully people will stop with the stupid questions soon. They always make me laugh tho'

yeah..it definately grabs on almost any surface. Last night is the first time I've been able to break the tires loose on the damn thing..of course, I'm not normally drag launching it on roads either..holy burning rubber smell though!

Yeah,Pat had the same issues with his Type R when he got it in '99;"wow,is that a real Type R?" like 5 times a day.

He did however have a HS girl tell him "your car gives me orgasms".

Well damn! Maybe its worth the headache then! :) Nobody has asked me if its a REAL evo yet. They just think its a normal lancer with a body kit or something if they are new. Maybe they are just fawking stupid too..who knows.

The kid in the white Galant was running mid 12s early last year. He won the first IDRC last year too. Spanked me.

I saw you up in Longmont last night. I went up there for a bit. Cruised around. LOTS of rice and a little corn (domestic rice).

That galant was nuts, from the 2-stage to gone was insane. I've never seen a car take off that fast on the street. I'm gonna have nightmares about that car and I was only watching.

Bedlam: You have a red Evo? My Supra buddy just bought a Silver one. If you're still stock, you two would be a fun race, just for grins. Heheh. 1.8 60-foots with ease?!, wow.

forum: Are Galant VR4's AWD like the 3kgt? Jack told me what turbo he had setup, but I lost the PM...

Does your supra buddy live up in the broomfield area by any chance? and drive a red supra

But anyways the Galant vr4 as far as I know shares the same drivetrain as the awd dsms

AWD like the 3kGT but shares the same drivetrain/engine as the Turbo T/E/Ls and they mod the same with the same results but the Galants do weigh just a bit more.

Kostas with stock-looking Red BPU Supra lives in Superior (between Broomfield and Boulder). Dan-T88 with Bomex kit, Red T88 Supra lives/works around Westy/Thornton I think. Mike/Boosthard with BPU wingless red Supra with primer Abflug hood lives down in Littleton. Those are the only red ones I know. :)

Hahahahaaa - this is what Carl Morris posted on the CODSM mailing list:All,
Went to Longmont last night with some race gas. There were plenty of people, but it wasn't as busy as I expected it to be. I guess I figured it was the first warm evening of the year...

Not much going on except I saw the same (I think) red EVO cruising with his Honda friends that I saw running the 14.2@96 at Bandi a few weeks ago when I was there on pump gas running high 13s. He was leaving town at about 12:30 going south on 287, so we followed him and got next to him. He surprised us and hit it right away. It took us a couple of seconds to downshift and get boost, by the time we started to catch back up he'd let off. Then we got next to him and hit and it pulled away hard, but it was hard to tell if he'd gone at the same time or not. It looked like nothing else would happen, but we had the good fortune of catching a light at 52. We stutterboxed him with his Prelude buddy watching and that was that :-).BTW - Carl is a great guy. You'll not meet a nicer person to race.

His car usually runs in the mid to high 13 range, occasionally dipping lower. Sleeper 16G/FMIC/VPC and of course a few other supporting mods. And yes, he has a cutout on the downpipe, but as I understand it, he doesn't run with it uncapped except at the track...?

Yeah, he's been trying to get as best times he can on pump gas. He's well into the 12's with race gas.

You probably ran into him on pump.

yeah..he was totally cool about it, I didnt feel bad losing to another "racer" and not some idiot ricer kiddie with a fast car. I'll have to go over there and chat. Of course, he said right in his post he was running race gas...soooo....fear the galant. :)

Mike P. just sent me a link to this page so I figured I better register and get in on this. Yeah, it was my car. I was in the passenger seat with a friend of mine driving it, and yeah, I was the one who talked to you at Bandi. I felt a little bad that we were harassing you so bad, but hey, that's what we're all there for, right? :-) I was on race gas, so I knew it wasn't going to be pretty or fair, since I saw what you ran at Bandi. My friend missed second, but we'd launched so hard on you that he was able to recover OK. BTW, the exhaust on my car is 2.5" from one end to the other...but these days if you don't have at least a 3.5" tip, everybody thinks it looks tiny. That's OK, though :-). I don't have an open-exhaust dump any more. Anyway...see you around...

Heh..well welcome aboard! I thought the exhaust looked a little smaller than that but I cant really say I had much of a look at it. Anyway, your car is reasonably sick and wrong...cool as hell. I didnt mind the harassment...if it would have been some jackass in a mustang or something...I would have thought differently, but another mitsubishi? no problem!

That was the first time I've ever really raced on the street..it really suprised me that I spun my tires a bit..but you guys definately KILLED me on the launch. Forum was the guy behind us in the Prelude..he said it was really, really, cool watching 2 AWD cars have at it, disappearing into the horizon. Maybe after I get a few mods on my car you'll let me take another shot at it?

Still..it was a lot of fun..I heard the 2 step so I figured I was done anyway..but its not every day you get to play around with another AWD turbo car on the street..nice cool night too. :)

Thanks again. As everyone can tell, I'm going for the
bone stock POS look. Some people do that without
trying, I've actually chosen it intentionally. :-)

My thoughts exactly. Well...it's fine with me if Mustangs
do it too...saved me the hassle of chasing them down :-).
I also own an 85 Mustang SVO, so I have a soft spot for
them.

Even though your 16g spools better than most, at this
elevation you'll have to get ignorant if you want to launch
really hard. I wouldn't do it with a car as new as yours, but
if I own a used one in a few years, I'll just launch it on the
stock 7500rpm rev limit if there is no good 2-stage solution
for it. I assume the ECU code is similar to mine, and the
stock rev limiter makes a great launch solution...it cuts spark
AND fuel so you don't get the obnoxious banging that a spark
only rev limiter gives you each time the extra fuel ignites.

Definitely. I remember my first time seeing a hard AWD
launch from right behind it. I was blown away.

I like what AMS is doing with theirs...I see they
got about 70hp from exhaust, and a boost controller.
You'll want to start running race gas as soon as you start
messing with the boost, since you run so much already.

john

The GVR4 is a friend of mine. It wasn't the rev limiter, it was a stutterbox launch. :)
