well, he had one of these cars for about a month, its a turbo dohc
The torque on these cars is pretty good for it being an import, we raced from a stop and then from a roll of about 25, I took him on both pretty well
I thought it was a nice looking car, like a camaro

If 3000gt looks like a camaro, I must be kofi annan.
and what kind of car did you race it in?
RiceBurner00
04-30-2003, 11:24 PM
1986 Buick T-Type
Were you more impressed with it than you expected to be since you only talk about seeing ricers? Also, it's twin turbo just so you know. The non-turbo ones are worthless. how close was it? Details, details!

I wasnt really impressed, I knew it was a quick car
well from the stop, it was almost neck and neck, but when I got into 2nd gear I kinda took off on him
from a roll I even beat him more, I dont know exactly car lengths but it was by a good amount
He knew he was gonna get beat but he said he was impressed that I didnt beat him by much more. Next i am going to race his brothers 87 camaro
I know 2 people who own 3000gts and there really down to earth and they dont think there car owns or anything, I hate seeing ricers though, I know 5 of them and 4 are cocky asses

They prolly got the SL models. Of course you'd beat em. SL stands for SLow. I don't beleive a damn word you ever say cause you never explain anything and it always sound like BS.

hey has twin turbos, the horsepower on his car is roughly 315, with about the same torque. He didnt have any mods and I do not have mods
what mods do you have? what mods did he have? he didnt launch then if you guys were even right? huh?
ok ryanman cool, dont believe me lol, why would I lie to a bunch of people I dont know? Am I trying to impress people I will never have contact with? lol

erm, a how much HP does your buick have? the 3000GT VR4 (TT model) is AWD, its hard to believe that you sat side by side at a stop light.

05-01-2003, 11:47 PM
it has 245 horsepower, but 340 feet of torque, anyone who knows about these cars knows what they can do, if you are one of those people who are thinking, damn a Buick? 1986? bahaha yea right, then I dont know what to tell you
but in 1986 these cars came out beating the corvette in the inde. 500, they have really awesome articles on that year too

'86 Vettes only had 240hp and ran the 1/4 in the mid 14s,the Buicks were known to easily beat 'em it was no secret.
RiceBurner00
05-02-2003, 03:25 PM
yes, but they can take other years of the vette too, my car runs 12.25 1/4 mile, I am going to modify so I can get it to be right under 10 seconds like the guy I bought it from, then I will start getting big on racing
RiceBurner00
05-02-2003, 03:26 PM
and it was a suprise to the people that the buick beat the vette
even look at the headlines of the magazines

They didn't run 12s stock so modded is a different story, mid 13s was the times in '86 with an occasional run in the low 13s.
Cool car but I like one that can turn also and GNs weren't known for their cornering prowess.

I got cold air intake on mine, but I really dont consider that a mod, well if so, just a little one

they actually have 320hp and 315tq, but whose counting :)
thats cool that you have sort of a sleeper, it still looks like a grand national...
a modded 3k would give you a run for your money tho. even if your runnin more boost.

In stock trim a 3000GT VR4 will hit close to mid 14s with mild mods on it they are capable of high 13s at Bandi.

I don't want to piss on anyones fire, but....
91'-93' VR-4's 300hp, 94'-99' VR-4's 320 hp w/ 1/4 miles of high 13's, mid 13's are capable w/ a good driver and no mods. basic performance upgrades should be low 13's.
the buick should be around low 17 second 1/4 miles, maybe high 16's. But this is just what i have read and is the lowest stock 1/4 mile time i have came across.
maybe it was a 3000GT SL, they were 222hp, w/ 1/4 miles around low 16's, high 15's w/ a good driver.

First, 3000GTs are heavy as fuck.
Second, I will piss on your fire and say there is no way a Buick GRAND NATIONAL is going to run high 16s. If you don't know what a GN is, do some research.

If you think a Buick T-Type is gonna run a 16 or even a 17, someone needs to slap you. I just recently picked up a 89 turbo Trans Am, AKA the GTA, turbo V6, same as GN and t-type and it is bone stock with 76k miles on it and I pulled a 13.2@110mph. Not bad for a bone stock V6 eh? Get a clue.
Most of the stock GN's at Bandi were pulling low to mid 14's. Not sure about the 3kgt though, I didn't think they were that quick in stock trim......

given how close those cars are in the 1/4 mile it depends how long the race is, from a stop unless they go pretty far(pretty close to the 1/4 mile) the t-type wouldn't kick it's ass
ricewizard

Yes it would. 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile, 1 mile.

Yes it would. 1/8th mile, 1/4 mile, 1 mile.
I highly doubt it would by the 1/8th mile, given the awd advantage, and how close they 1/4 mile times are, it must have nothing for mid-range power if it's going to be winning at all 3 of those points
ryanman
12-31-2003, 04:43 PM
Have you ever driven either one? Have you raced either one? I have and I would figure the outcome just buy what I've went by and also you gotta figure with a normal driver and how they'd be driven. I know what your saying and yeah with perfect drivers in both cars they'd be close but T-type would pull em. T-type is auto and easy to drive, more than likely the GT was a stick and not everyone can drive em to there full potenetal. Catch my drift?
The T-type is rumored to be one of the only RWD cars that can achieve similar 60' times on both the street and the strip.

I am waiting for Buick to rerelease the beast, but for gods sake, I hope if they do its not FWD

BUICK Gran Nationals had turboed V6s and ran high 13s right off the floor back in '86. Not all of them were slow.
RiceBurner00
01-01-2004, 07:40 PM
GN's and T-types are just as fast as each other, the GN is worth more though because of how many were made
x_wolf19
01-08-2004, 03:11 AM
the buick GN was a fast as hell car in its time, still is really stock for stock and it would beat the 3000GT in stock form. Rear wheel drive is good for launches too, don't forget that. maybe not quite as well as AWD, but still damned good. BTW you will stomp that 80s camaro you talked about in your first post less he has lots of work done to it. the 3rd gen camaros are slow generally without some mods!
cheers
