I currently have a 1981 Yamaha XS650 that's been a great bike, but it is starting to hold me back. i.e., I've been riding for a little over two years, and I can no longer progress as a rider with this bike.
I'm starting to look for a new used bike, but I am trying to save some money up for other things, so I cant spend a lot. Here's the stipulations:
- $2,000 or less
- Sport/sport tourer/ or cruiser (if it has some go to it)
- around 650, give or take (okay, give) a couple hundred cc's
- nothing too radical
- I can be fairly certain that it will start up every time I want to ride (not the case with current bike)

I really like the looks of naked bikes like monsters, FZ1, vmax, etc., but I could go for a full bodied and fendered one too.

I saw a local ad for a '92 FZR600 w/ headers, muff, jet for $2K. I know nothing about these bikes. Are they good? Also theres this Kaw that runs around here, I think it's a KZ750, and it looks kinda cool. The ultimate would be a Duc Monster 620, but that aint happenin for the moment.

Give me some suggestions for what to look out for. Thanks

Ahh, the FZR (aka the "fizzer"). Yamaha has been known to make extremely good bikes, but make sure you go over it before you make a decision. The 2k, part, however, makes it kinda hard. If you want to put money down, I'd say, go for the SV1000S (but you probably don't want to do that, huh...). Just check cycletrader.com for bikes for 2k around your area. Since I really doubt you'd be looking for a Royal Enfield, or for that matter, a HD or a dirt-bike, try to keep your search limited. Oh, and that CBR600F2 for sale for 2k? Sold. Good luck!

I think I found my next bike- Yamaha Radian 600 (YX600).

It's a pretty cool little bike with an air-cooled four lifted from the FZ600. I rode one today and I love it. Now I jsut need to wait a month or so to accumulate the cash.
When should I start to worry about mileage??? Is 22,000mi on an '89 too much?

Hmmm...never seen one of those!! Look for an older late 80's early 90's gixxer. You will be more happy!

22k miles? I think that's great when getting a bike that old. Make sure all the maintenence work has been done (documented papers and whatnot).

the FZR is a great bike I actually have one ... 96 fzr 600 that I am putting back together after I laid it out lightly ... I will probably be selling it in a week or 2 if I get the time to finish it and it will be in your price range
