I just got back from the test track setup in Commerce City. It was a special VIP drive/class on the SRT. They had a timed course and a balls to the wall course that let you drive the competetion like the new Si, and the SVT focus. This car does rock! Looks are subjective, and it IS a neon, but this one is made to perform, I learned that tonight. I'm sure Stu and his cousin Mike would agree.

Yeah they are in Colorado, I have seen a silver one and a yellow one in colorado springs..........

Be advised that some people are confusing the Neon SXT with the SRT-4 as they both have a similar spoiler & rims!

To the best of my knowledge no dealerships *should* be getting them before John Elway Southwest as they are a certified SRT dealer (meaning they went to the training classes in Florida on this car). There are alot of people who have traveled to other states to purchase them & I'm sure three is probably a few SRT-4's in Colorado by this means.

Some florida dealers are even picking people up at the airport in their car, pretty cool:cool:

Umm I htink I can tell the differnece in the two cars. For one teh SRT ahs a higher spoiler, totally different front end with a huge front mount........oh yeah and loud ass dual exhaust.....

Some have never given a neon a 2nd thought ever untill now so it wouldn't suprise me if a few people got them mixed up. I even did a double take the first time I saw a solar yellow sxt. yes they're definately different looking but there are alot of similiarities.

I've seen the yellow one by my house 3 or 4 times now. I even stoped to look at it one night when he was in a liquor store. It was DEFINETLY an SRT-4 :)

That's cool. I'm not doubting anyone, I was just pointing out that "supposedly" the dealers in Colorado don't even have them yet to sell:confused: It sounds like there's a few running around down there in the springs... maybe someone should call the dodge dealler down there and find out?

The ones in the springs have manufacturer plates. Except for one lone red SRT4 in the mountains, all on the streets are owned by DCX. (there could be some owners that went to another state to get theirs, but I've only seen DCX ones)

However, there are about 20-30 SRT4's in Denver, and should be at EVERY Dodge dealer that went through the SRT4 training on monday/tuesday/wednesday.

www.dodge.com, click on Find a Dealer, then click SRT4, type in your zip code, etc.

I had the pleasure of driving 3 of them on Saturday at the KS107.5 event, and also a Focus SVT and Civic Si.

The SVT handles/steers the best of the three, hands down. The Civic is faster in a straight line than the Focus, but the SRT4 SPANKS them all. It feels about the same as my father's C5 Corvette at this altitude.....and it is the only production bone stock car I've ever driven that has a decent amount of wheelspin in 2nd gear.

And the seats rule.....

theres a guy in evergreen somewhere who has one. Asked him to gimmee a quick "how fast is it run by". I was about 5 cars up and he gave it some gas, sounded mean as hell and just blew by me, pretty quick little thing

I would never buy a neon for the simple fact that everyone that I know who has a neon has either had nothing but engine or tranny problems. hell a few of them even went through multiple trannies. Thank god for factory warranties...

I love my neon. One of the funnest cars I have ever driven. Way more fun than the civic I own and will be getting rid of soon. If you are always looking for a reason to put the neon down, you will find them saying that they are unreliable and such. The fact is that if you don't take care of any car...bad things will happen. My neon has been very dependable, even when it has been turbocharged. I have had no problems and it is fast. I know several neon owners who haven't had any problems either.

The SRT trannies are rated to almost 300 ft lbs of torque, have equal length half shafts, bigger input shaft diameter, etc.

You WON'T break one, at all.

All other manual neon trannies are the same basic design, aside from a few ratio changes, and a running change to the bellhousing in mid 2000. 94-03 is all the same for the standard transmission.

The automatic transmissions? All up until mid 2002 suck, but are very strong. Mid 2002 they started coming with a 4th gear.

Besides the interior and amount of sound deadening, everything is same quality as any other small car I've looked at, including the engine/suspension.

Koni struts never came on a Honda Civic from the factory, but they sure as hell came on neon's. Adjustable Koni's too.

The reason you hear about so many neon problems, is because people drive to 120k without changing the timing belt. I don't care what you drive, a timing belt will break if you push it well past the service date(105k on neon, 60k on civic).

You can not like the neon because of its name, or the fact that its a domestic, or its looks, but you can't just make up shit as your reason.

You will pass the riceboy phase once you learn that anything fast deserves respect. I can't believe the number of dumbshits with 16 and 17 second honda's who will laugh at a 12 second neon.

It all comes down to jealously & envy. People fear what they don't know or understand. Notice that the people who bash the SRT-4 (don't get this confused with evaluating it) fall into this catagory? This car isn't the greatest, it's not the fastest, it's also not the most expensive either...it's not for everyone...that's cool.

Sometimes the truth hurts...fine it's a neon...justify all you want...yes it'll probably kick your ass...nuff said.

"Just a neon" - these comments kill me. The Chryco guys got serious, and decided that it was time to make a statement. I think they are doing a good job out of the gates, and just wait. There will be an aftermarket for these cars that will suprise everyone. I can see 500-600 hp neons in the near future.

I have said from teh beginning of these threads that the SRT-4 is a bad ass car. What I am getting sick of hearing is that it is just a neon. Like john said, those comments are pretty dumb. Eveyone who thinks it is just a neon is blinded by the fact that they drive just some other make of car, be it a Honda, VW, Mitsu, whatever. None of the cars in question are high dollar, really nice cars. Some have better things about them than others in certain areas. But is any one make really all that better? doubt it.

The neon is not for everyone, but one thing is for sure, the car is damn fast for a right of the box ride. It looks pretty good to me and to others, but then again looks are subjective. hey I hate the looks of the new civic and I am not all that fond of the rs-x, nor have I ever been really into the intergras front end but thats just me. Are there still some bad ass integras out there? hell yeah there are, but my question is this? If the Integra is as fast as this new neon isn't it still "just an interga", like the "neon is still just a neon?" And that goes for any car that is mentioned in this post. i guess I just don't see where the seperation comes that makes evry other car so much better than a neon. Sure fit and finish may be better on a VW or a Honda, but I guess you give some and take some depending on what you are looking for.

Well put Steve. I really don't understand all of the bashing this car is receiving. I think most of it boils down to the fact that people are scared and a bit jealous. Dodge went and blew the market off of the import world with this car, and they priced it low enough to be affordable. I'm sorry, but Honda has lost its way as far as my point of view goes. Back when the SI came out in 99 it was one of the highest hp imports on the market in it's price range. The newer honda's have the lowest hp of any import in their class. A 20K car that puts down 300 WHP with 300 dollars in mods is pretty amazing in my book reguardless of the body or badge that it wears. I respect dodge because they take chances. Very few auto makers seem to be willing to lay things on the line like that.

right on. i just remember along time ago out at the aurora street races i raced one. everyone told me to, and i had no idea it was turbo, until at the end i looked back and it was right at my bumper! haha

No, thats my friend Chris Barnett's neon who also posts on these forums. Its a pretty fast neon.

There are quite a few of us turbo neons running around. I know of several all over the state. 4 of us ran in the sr1 team challenge at the IDRC event last september.

haha, that's back when I had my boost leak! No boost in first gear!

It was horrible. I couldn't run quicker than mid 14's like that. I've since found the leak, and with some other misc mods I've gone 12.5 here.

I will say though, I was surprised that you were quicker than I was. Not often do you see a FWD that's quicker than mid 15's at this altitude.

haha, yeah dude, that was a sweet race. I just remember waiting at the line there and some bro was asking what you had done and i hear "turbo". I was like wtf? I can't believe those kids set me up! haha.
