a buddy of mine is looking at getting a bike, but has never ridden before. he is looking at a ducati, suzuki gsx-r600, and a katana 600. just to name a few.
basically we want to know which would be a better all around bike especially for some one who has never ridden before.
thanks in advance

Now I dont think that would be a good bike for a beginner. For one they are expensive and I would hate to see a newbie put a ducati down.............

:shudders at the thought: Ducati is definently not a good beginner bike, go for something smaller like a 600 and doenst require the finese of a ducati
he was looking at the Ducati 620 sport ff

Start off on the Katana then graduate to the GSXR. If mine wasn't sold already I'd hook him up with mine.

Alrighty, tell the noob this. If he has NO experience, tell him to get either a Suzuki SV650 or a Honda CBR600 F2-F3. Great beginner bikes, and it's a lot less unlikely he'll kill himself on those bikes compared to the ones he's looking at.
He'll kill himself on those bikes...and here are my reasons.
Katana 600: Weights more than 400 lbs. Not a good starter bike. He needs something light (370 lbs. is a good place) to start out with. May have the power, but is still overwhelmed by weight.
GSXR600: While an extremely good bike, you should have SOME experience before riding it. If you had some experience, I'd say go for it.
Ducati: ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FREAKIN' MIND?! NO beginning rider should get him/herself a ducati, you'll be fixing it more than you would riding it. Besides that, its WAAAY too much bike for a beginner, no matter what the size. Ducatis, like most imported motorcycles, are mostly for those with lots of experience under their belt.
As far as the ZX-6 goes, that's for someone who has at least taken the MSF riding course. Stick with a SV650 or a Honda CBR600F2-F3. That's a great place to start out.

Yeah i would say either a SV650 or a F2-F3. The Ducati Monster 620's would prolly be a good bike although yeah a little spendy for a beginner bike. Their not that bad of a bike until you start gettin into the 748, 749, 800, 900, 998's and the 999's. They are definately not beginner bikes. Come down to Erico and check some bikes out. We have a whole bunch of used bikes, new Ducati's and Triumphs.
