Next month, Subaru of America will launch the next level of our Driving Performance initiative with the introduction of the 2004 Subaru Impreza WRX STi.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi draws motorsports technology directly from our expertise in the World Rally Championship (WRC) competition, and is designed to appeal to the serious driving enthusiast. Featured at the North American International Auto show in Detroit in January of this year, the Impreza WRX STi will serve as the performance flagship of the Subaru line. It will be the most powerful Subaru ever offered for sale in North America.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi builds on the performance and styling success of the
award winning Impreza WRX models that were an overnight success in the U.S. market. STI stands for Subaru Tecnica International, the high performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. The Subaru Impreza WRX STi is powered by an intercooled and turbocharged 2.5 liter DOHC boxer engine with Active Valve Control System (AVCS), variable valve timing, and an intercooler manual control water spray system delivering 300 horsepower at 6000 RPM and 300 lb-ft. peak torque at 4000 RPM. The Impreza WRX STi comes equipped with a 6-speed manual transmission and our most integrated Full-Time All Wheel Drive system with a Driver Control Center Differential (DCCD), and a high performance inverted strut sport tuned suspension to provide the ultimate combination of power and handling.

The Subaru Impreza WRX STi also features the latest in performance safety engineering – as standard equipment. High intensity discharge (HID) headlights provide increased forward visibility, while heavy duty Brembo® four wheel disc brakes, Electronic Brake-Force Distribution, Super Sport ABS and 17-inch BBS® wheels provide superior braking stability. Additional standard safety features include front seat head/chest side impact air bags, dual front airbags, and three-point seatbelts for all seating positions. All 2004 Impreza models are equipped with a safety brake pedal system that is designed to yield during a serious frontal impact in order to help reduce injury to the driver’s lower limbs.

We are very pleased to announce the MSRP for the Subaru Impreza WRX STi will be $30,995. The vehicle will come with a choice of rally inspired gold painted wheels (DG 4JI) or silver painted wheels (HG 4JJ).

whoooo whooo, thank you finding this out. I am so relieved that the price is actually that low. I was think around 33k, but damn I am happy with that price. The only thing is that insurance is going to rape me. But hey, 300hp and 300ftq there is gonna be some insurance mark up.

I can't wait to get mine, october/november is a good wait, but well worth it.

Why October/November? Is that when the dealer told you or is that when you'll be ready to buy?

The reason it will be that late is because Subaru doesn't ship all the STI's at once. It is a one car at a time basis. And since I was the 9 out of 10 person to put my deposit down, it was going to take awhile.

The dealer also told me that there were only 500 coming to the US, until they figure out how much money they are going to make. The place I went to also said they were only the dealership not marking up prices, thank god for that. The salesman said that he herd that other dealerships were going as high as 12k markup. Similair to the EVO.

Cool, I'm #1 at a dealer near me so we'll see if I get one in June or July, maybe even below MSRP :). Not promising anything but hopefully this works out.

I wonder what it is going to run, Dave Buschur just ran a 12.94 in the EVO 8.

STi will own the EVO8 hands down. An Evo8 only runs .2 faster 1/4 mile than a stock 03 wrx at sea level. Wait untill we see some modded STi's then the fun really begins. FYI those numbers are from road and track.

Those high 13s were on very new cars but once some miles were added private owners have run easy mid 13s (Sport Compact ran 13.8s at LACR which isn't known for traction and is over 2000ft asl) with a couple 13.1s being verified so they definetly more than a couple tenths quicker than a WRX remember the EVOs dyno about 60 more ponies to the wheels. Adding a turbo back exhaust and just a little more boost they are getting mid 12s out of them so it'll be very interesting once the STi hits the strip.

My thoughts exactly! There have already been a few groups turning in mid 12's with pretty basic crap done to the car..so there is also a lot of potential there. I dont think the STi will own it "hands down" please..

The f00king car isnt even here yet..what if they decide to go all ghey on everyone and put some really shitty tires on it like they did the WRX? Guess we'll see..its going to be a quick car..thats for sure..but bitchslapping the E8? I really doubt it. Saying something like that you just sound like a Subi fanboy. :p

Its not coming with shitty tires, rather Potenza RE 070's.

I've seen 'em and you wouldn't want these things anywhere near snow and maybe even anything wet, they look like an autox tire rather than a street tire.

Just wait and see. Words mean nothing.

Exactly since with the EVO putting down 240 to the wheels then their factory rating at 270hp seems a little underated for an AWD car, realistically it's probably closer to 290ish.

who has a stock evo putting 240 to the wheels? never heard that before...

Here we go again, can't we all just get a long? I have to say that I am a fan of both EVO and STI, and happy that we are finally getting these cars. Each car has it's own unique style and performance, but that doesn't mean one is better than the other. They are both great cars, period.

Stop acting like little kids and take it to the track if you have a real point.

SCC put the new EVO on the AWD dyno at HKS in California and hit just over 240whp.
Go check an EVO forum or DSMTalk for a thread on it.

This is old news.

I'm not dissing on the Evo one bit.. I think it rocks. When I see an STi on the road I might pop wood, but I like the Evo a whole lot too :)
I just hadnt heard those numbers... damn the evo dyno numbers are all over the place... what to believe?

I've heard of three dynos putting down 238-242 so that's pretty realistic.

Whatever you do, dont believe vishnu, that guys a tool. 180whp? come on, lol

And buschers 12.69 was done on pump gas at 19 PSI. Wait till someone throws some 112 in that mofo and turns the boost up a little past 20 :D
